Thank you, all of you, for all the wonderful birthday wishes. This has been a very nice birthday even though I'm out here in the middle of nowhere by myself. My son called and we talked for a long time. Another friend still in Coffeyville, KS called and we talked even longer. My friend Steven called and we talked for a little while. I wandered around the campground and the lake this morning, then came back and used up my three apples making apple crisp. Then decided Tamale Pie sounded good, so made that as well. Amazing the things you can do with a toaster oven and microwave.
I found a spot for all the paperback books I borrowed from my mom for the Baja trip, then decided my small clothes closet and cupboards needed some work. So, hung everything up that I could, leaving lots of space in the cupboards. Cleaned out another small closet and organized it better. I use it for things like paper, notecards, dish towels, placemats, napkins, and just about everything else that doesn't have a spot. I'd eventually like to build some shelves in that one, but it will do for now. Then tackled the food/dish cupboards. And now they'll work so much better. Threw away four plastic grocery sacks worth of stuff. Read about half of Steinbeck's
Tortilla Flat since I'd never read that one. Moved stuff from a purse to the really nice wallet my mom gave me for my birthday. Got rid of the purse. Washed all the dishes I'd used in cooking. Worked on the computer for a while.
And now tomorrow it will be time to get together with Jenny, Dan, Jean, Beth, and Sheila and her DH. Can't wait! And it's only about a two-hour drive (at the most) from here to Yuma.
And no, I don't feel my ancient age at all.
