I'm just catching up here and things got somewhat resolved after another deep dive first. I'm still trying to figure out how you can be wrong for telling a parent his child can't read, when the child can't read. Mind boggling. It's so sad to hear a teacher like yourself coming to terms with a situation by planning retirement. I know how much the kids have and do mean to you. That said, for your own sanity, I think you're making the right decision.

Enjoy your weekend camping. Hugs.

$500 a month is $6,000 a year or about 2,000 gallons of fuel or 12,000 miles you can get away from the problem

Hang in there.

So glad you found out about the earlier retirement!! Having that in your mind will make wading through the remaining time a lot less painful.

And you are a better woman than me, that "verbal warning" meeting would end in bloodshed if I were on the receiving end of it. :P

Laura, I like your plans for the immediate future. You are handling this horrible situation very well. Have a good time this weekend. Know you have the support of The Forum Women! Lyn

That is an excellent plan! If they won't pay much for those accumulated 40 days, I'd sure take a lot of 'mental health' days this year. Good for you!

I'm so very glad it's all looking real good for you to get out with your sanity intact!
Congratulations. And do you realize how fast NEXT October 1 will be upon you - why it's less than a year!

I'm only now reading (and don't get me wrong I'm happy you have a good plan in place) but it makes me so sad that our school system is loosing a teacher like you!

So glad you have a plan that works for you. Like Diana said, it's such a shame a public school will be losing an excellent teacher. I agree with what JudyJB said about parents needing to be involved with their kids' education. I would work full time, come home and fix a homemade sit-down dinner, review each kid's homework, drill them on memory work (private parochial school requirement) and get them to bed. That went on every night and it paid off.

Just make sure you get all the facts correct about when you can get out. So many times I've heard the question, "Do you have that in writing?" It'll be a great year for you that will fly by faster than you think. Congrats on finding a solution.
