I love reading all your stories about wonderful family Thanksgivings. Mine were different: my stepfather always got drunk and became belligerent, his brother got drunk and had his hands all over every female present including me in my teens and my stepfather's parents got into a fight. When my mother divorced the jerk we then had small but happy holidays. This is probably why I'm always glad when the holidays are over.

Oh Karen and many others holidays are a strain... hopefully it's time to make new happier memories... the scars are always with us...
My family did not get drunk but the abuse was horrid... that is why friends are sometimes closer than kin...

There is a song with the words 'there's a new day coming'. I think this day we can make new... hugs to you Karen and others..

I deleted part of this post. Maybe it belongs in another section.

Oh my gosh, Kathleen, I can only imagine how you must have felt. Adults sometimes never get over things like that - but 16? Big hugs to you - and thank goodness the Mom knew you hadn't done anything and supported you from the beginning.

Karen, had a few of those lousy holidays, myself. Luckily you had good ones later - and I try to make sure all my holidays now, whether alone or not, are good - I don't need to be sharing them. Sometimes that brings about problems all by itself.

Kathleen, that is horrifying and tragic. So sorry that happened to you and that poor bereaved family.

One Thanksgiving that stands out in my mind is the year my aunt and uncle, who lived in the mountains, decided to have everyone in the the family up for Thanksgiving dinner. They dug four large holes in the ground and intended to roast a turkey, ham, venison and something else for our dinner. Well, when the meat was dug out, everything except the ham was uncooked!!! Of course, the aunt and uncle was very embarrassed, but the family laughed and ate whatever else was available. lyn
