Yikes, I just caught up on this....Hmmm, they say attitude has so much to do with one's health, & it seems like you're approaching this with optimism & humor--yep, at our age, who needs boobs  The important thing is to get yourself healthy! :P Prayers!

I have always been envious of ladies with little tiny bras that have spaghetti straps and one hook in the back, in bright and adorable colors. My bras have always had between 7 and 20 hooks in the back, straps made from airplane cable, and come in black, white, flesh tone...

I can't wait to find MY IDEAL PERFECT BRA - itty bitty red polka dot with one hook and little teeny straps...

Surgeon's office called this morning (I don't know why they think that just because we have cancer, that we're not sound asleep at 7 minutes past 7 in the morning...) Anyway, insurance will pay for BOTH mastectomies. Then I told her I had changed my mind on reconstruction and wanted IBTs. She said they would have to get insurance approval for that, too. (when did insurance companies start dictating our health???) Nurse will get together with doc this afternoon and decide a date for the whack job. (and here I have always referred to a "whack job" as a nutty or crazy unusual person, like Vickie...)

Now, I'm going back to bed. My phone has been ringing and ringing with peeps I haven't talked to on the phone in years...ah, the power of the internet.

You guys are the best.

Well, that's good news Mitch. One financial worry out of the way. Now if they cover the other, you will be in business all the way around.

Loved your bra description  I'm sure you will find the one you are looking for. Hmmm, maybe a bikini top would work

Would get a tummy tuck at the same time! Then I would have to buy new clothes to fit my svelt new figure.

But if you don't, I am sure the regular implants are better than they were years ago. Have you talked to your surgeon about consulting with a plastic surgeon before your mastectomy?

The surgeon is a General and Cosmetic surgeon. A friend of mine had her breasts reconstructed with tummy fat and she said it was a pretty bad recovery. He mentioned implants, so I don't know why.

Believe me, I have plenty of flab!!! Got enough if anyone else needs some...

My daughter was gonna have a tummytuck and the doc said that is one of the worst surgeries to recover from....don't know, just passing on what she told me last year. Figure the more info the better the decision...

Ouch! regarding that early morning phone call....being that I am not a morning person myself and knowing that you didn't even have a chance to prime your brain with coffee at that time in the morning! :o The part about insurance companies determining our health care......a sad fact of life...... I think they are the one responsible for how long someone gets to stay in the hospital after surgeries, etc., and establishing standards of what "routine" treatment plans look like....unless you have a bundle of money and can dictate what is going to happen.....

The little polk-a-dots look good but as some of us will still have the muffin tops to think about, I for one would still need to go with the tee-shirt effect....

Especially when I hit the beaches topless...only seems fair - I'll be built like a guy, why can't I go topless like a guy?

I remember that when I had my wisdom teeth out in my 20's the only way the insurance would pay for it was if it was done in a hospital. I was there for 2 days. It's sad that now you are out the door almost before you wake up. My DH says that everyone gets well on Friday. Don't have anything done at the end of the week and expect to get any help if you have problems on the weekend.

As strange as it sounds, getting out of the hospital sooner rather than later is a good thing. You can pick up some nasty things in a hospital. Sending my prayers.

Wow, 23 hours, that's ridiculous! I wonder if that time will change now that you have chosen the reconstruction.

Just think, now you can have cute little "Over the shoulder, PEBBLE holders"!

After what happened to George, you can bet I'll insist that anyone who comes in to fondle my boobies while in the hospital, washes their hands first and does so thoroughly! Probably won't make any friends that way, but I'd rather be alive than have more friends. I'll bet George would feel the same way. Besides, I have enough great friends right here! Well, except for Vickie - she's coming up to try and kill me with her cooking.
