I agree, Lori. Enjoyed seeing what I managed to see on a cruise, but driving there isn't on my list either. Will enjoy everyone else's comments and photos, tho.

I too was not so excited about messing up my rig in Alaska when Birdie first mentioned it to me. I have already cruised thru the inside passage. But, Denali continues to call my name. I'm heading to Gillette, WY over the July 4th wkend for RVW's national convention, then onto Glacier National Park because I got rained out 2 summers ago. So since I'm gonna be right up there and the sisters are gonna be too, I might as well go on up ;)

Laughing about the "messing up your rig" part. I think my biggest messing up is all the time near salt water down here on the Gulf. But I can't stay away.

I, too, hope you get up to AK - but if you do, you must promise to come see me, too - as I'll be the one up there working. Will be looking forward to lots of days off with some sisters as they come through. And days working with you taking the tour I'll be working for. :)

Now Ladies, driving in AK is not that bad. I've been there done that. Sure you are going to get muddy cause there's always some road construction along the way. And there are stretches of road where the perma frost kind of heaves the pavement up. But otherwise, it's a great drive and a really neat experience. I and two friends, drove my Chevy Tahoe all the way there from here in Michigan. Took the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry up the inside passage and the drove from Haines the rest of the way. Made a loop all the way to Fairbanks and back down. Time unfortunately prevented us from going down to the Kenai, but another trip someday. We saw some spectacular country, lots of wildlife and interesting sights along the way. By the time we got home we had driven over 7,000 miles. Yu can always wash the rig and do whateve else needs done when you get back to the lower 48.

If you have the chance, go for it. Before there isn't any wilderness left in this country or climate changes take over and it's not as nice as it is now. It's the last great adventure left. You will never forget it.

Did someone, possibly Liz, mention being in Denali 4th of July week?? I can't find it.

Also, for those that have been to Alaska, anyone do a tour to Prudhoe Bay? If so, what did you think? I would never have thought of doing that, but it is on LeRoy's list. I nearly passed out at the price and then the fact you have to fly one way in a small plane! I've avoided small planes for all these years!!

Our date for crossing into Canada going north is not set yet. We plan to take the ferry from Haines to Prince Rupert on the way back to the U.S. - that will be the second half of August as we want to be in Port Angeles, Washington by Sept. 5.

Liz and Beth were kind enough to pass along a lot of info when we are at the PA GTG; a friend of LeRoy's gave us info; now there is a couple in the park from Alaska so we have had some good first hand info.

Anita, we will be at Denali July 1-7, checking out on the 8th. 1 night at Riley Creek cg, 2at Savage River, and 4 at Teklanika.

I didn't go to Prudhoe Bay, but friends we met drove up there on the Dalton highway. Their pictures were great. They had made their own rv on a big truck chassis with big tires.

Thanks, Liz. Since the July dates worked for you well enough to do it again, I think that is what we will do. Having something definite will help us plan for other things we need to make reservations for.

Anita, I did the mid-Aug trip on the ferry that you are planning. After that I headed to AZ and was there in no time - so it won't take you long to get to WA - of course, you can make it take as long as you want :) Make sure to decide on all the stops you want to make from the ferry. I highly recommend you stop in St. Petersburg (the history just makes that one of my favorite stops). I also stopped in Juneau and Ketchikan. I might skip Ketchikan and go for someplace more remote next time - but loved every stop I made - so don't get me wrong there. And I did love my float plan trip into Misty Fjords and did that in Ketchikan. Geez - hahaha - how can I recommend when I say skip, no do lol - I got my reservations from one of the ferry offices in AK and they gave me a discount for multiple stops - best one was doing 3 total ports - so I was boarding in Haines then Juneau, St. Petersburg, Ketchikan - then disembarking at Prince Rupert. Of course, they may have totally different deals when you do it. I did find I got a better deal at their office than what I got online planning in advance. Might work the opposite for you - you never know. I did make changes on my itinerary once while in Juneau - I think I was scheduled to stay in Juneau one more day than I did - cost me something like $20 to make the change, but gave me an extra day in St. Petersburg and I was glad I did that. The nice thing is knowing you CAN do that.

Thanks, Beth. I did remember you had made your ferry reservations later and I appreciate the reminder of where you stopped.
