New pickup?

Postby Yakn1 » Wed Oct 26, 2011 2:18 pm

Hi Ladies!
Thinking about getting a new pick-up, I need some opinions from you. ( Boy did I open a door with that line!)

Anyway... Ford, GM, Dodge or Toyo?? I have a Chevy now that I have enjoyed for the most part but I need to go bigger. I am however not real happy with GM and their management, etc....

Those of you in the know, let me know!!

Thanks ( I think ) for the opinions.

Well...since you asked....FORD! They didn't take a buyout and my whole family has had really good luck with them. BF has always had Dodge and he swears by those, but he has diesel. My truck is an F-250 diesel...rides like a truck, but I love it. Wanna buy a truck? LOL!

FORD diesel. Can't go wrong...they are the best made, I prefer the looks of a Chevy but like Sharon said, FORD did not take the buyout. I believe they are the most solid built truck made. If you notice they are what's pulling 99.9 of all the 5th wheels and trailers. Ride smooth and so quiet. Sure wish I had one.

What are you asking for it? ;) That would pull my little 19' trailer like it was a pop-up!

We prefer Ford. My DH has a 2000 F-250 and 2006 F-350, both Diesel. I find the trucks ride rough but could be our roads. I drive a E-150 Ford Van and my motorhome is on a E-450. I love my van and don't know what I'm going to do if I have to get rid of it. It's a 2003 and has close to 100,000 miles. Guess I'll drive it until it quits. Down here I usually drive something until I can't keep the air conditioning working. That's the deal breaker. We have had Dodge and couldn't stand the dealership. The Chevrolet trucks didn't hold up pulling trailers.

Just looked at a Ford 150 with a 5.0. Dealer claims towing is rated at 11,000 - we'll see!
Not sure about a diesel, and I need something that rides smoothly - especially for the back seat driver I have

I have a Ford F250 Diesel to pull my 31' 5th wheel but I don't think you are pulling as much. It pulls like the 5th wheel isn't there.

  I don't know that much about it, but are you sure you want to go that small? It might tow that much, but will it stop it? The brakes aren't that big on the 150's.

Ford's are well-known for being more "truck-like" than GM or Chrysler trucks, or foreign brands, for that matter. Basically, that means they ride more roughly, but are heavier-duty all over.

While I currently drive a Chrysler Town and Country, when I do buy my Class-C motorhome in a year or so, it will definitely be on a Ford chassis, not a GM chassis. I want to have the power and toughness of a Ford truck. (I will confess that I work for Ford, although I am not a Ford employee and certainly not a car-person, but I do respect Ford trucks, less so Ford cars.)

We drive a diesel and regardless of what you choose (DH choose because he is not a FORD man) would suggest you look into the diesel...we get better mileage but then diesel costs more per gal still don't understand that but oh well...we have it and pay for it when we were towing a 24 footer with a smaller gas pickup we were getting like 9 per mile we get 11 plus or minus depending pulling a 36 foot 5th wheel yes I cry when we take it to the mechanics but it doesn't go very often
I think you will have to decide on the breed of truck each one of us will have our own reasons for the brand that we support...in our case it's DH's preference and he says we won't need another nor can we afford another for as long as we tow the 5th wheel...had I been asked I might have looked at one of the others...but we do like our pickup

Sorry folks, but I am in the GM family. Have been driving GM trucks for over 30 years and have never had an issue with any of them. Not that I wouldn't switch over to Ford cause I like the different styles of vehicles they are making nowdays.

My current truck is a Chevy Silverado equipped with the MAX trailering package. 6.2 liter engine, towing mirrors, integrated brake controller, heavy duty everything, yet it rides a smooth as a car. It has plenty of power to pull my 4600 pound trailer with ease, especially entering the expressways. Gas mileage with the trailer isn't the greatest, but no vehicle gets good mileage when pulling a trailer. Since you are already driving a Chevy, you might want to look into the truck line again.

It sure looks like Ford won the majority. I rely on my son's expertise. He is a Ford man but he says Dodge has the best diesel. I did ride in a Dodge diesel and it was amazingly quiet. He also says for pulling make sure you don't stress your truck...go for toughness and power. I have an F-150 but I think the GM trucks are the prettiest out there. Good luck :!:

Ford here too, a F-450 diesel dually. Ronnie's had both Dodge and Ford trucks. Can't beat the Dodge Cummins but the auto transmissions aren't good, he's had numerous ones replaced, as did my nephew. Before this F-450, we had a Dodge 3500 with a Hemi, it couldn't haul the TH without such a strain we thought it was gonna blow up! We went back to a diesel. It just all depends on your preference and the weight you're gonna haul, if you want to have the power to haul up Petit Jean mountain again, etc.
