Gave in and got an Ereader

I've been looking at ereaders and the prices thereof. Birdie was here and had a Kobo which I liked. Tried bidding on one on Ebay and lost in the last 30 seconds by $1.00. Went to Borders.com and checked out theirs and bought an Aluratek Libre for $119 and free shipping. I only need a wifi one, not 3G and I thought this was a great price. It will download any ebook that is in epub or pdf format which covers most of what I want to do. I do love my gadgets.

Karen, I haven't heard of that brand but will check it out online. Don't forget to go to the Book Talk section and write a review on it after you used it a while.
I just finished another book on my Kindle, have 12 still to read, and have 5 more samples downloaded to see if I want to buy the rest of the book. I spent $47 on books last month!!

Zeee, The Love Comes Softly series has been showing on the Hallmark channel most of the summer. Good story...

I've found lots of sites where I can get books either free or really cheap - anywhere from $3.00 to .89. The Libre got good reviews from PC World.

Karen, you can also get books free at participating libraries. The kewl thing about that - if you don't read them in time, they simply disappear from your ereader. So, if you want to read new books - see if you have a library around their with ebooks.

Haven't gotten it yet. They delivered it just before closing to my mail box and then the holiday hit. I WANT MY NEW TOY.

Overall I'm really enjoying my Kindle! I missed reading these past few years. My eyes have gotten worse since my last exam. My new prescription should be in next week. The cataracts are slowing progressing so need to keep an eye on that, makes reading really tiring for me.

Got my Libre today and LOVE it. For $119 and free shipping its as good as the Sony which is the only one I've actually seen. The thing I love about it is you can download books from anyone if they're in Epub or PDF or a bunch more. On the Kindle you have to buy books from Amazon, don't you? You can read it upright or turn it sideways and the text size can be changed. Came with a wall charger, earphones, usb connection, and a carrier. So far this was the least expensive ereader I found and IMO is comparable to any of them. Also has an SD card slot so you can store books on it instead of using up the internal memory. Can listen to audio books on it (I haven't figured that one out yet) and play music as a background to your reading, if you want to.

I'm hoping that I few of you guys at the gtg wil let us "look" at your toys. I have also noticed that my eyes get tired whe I read for a long time. Have to admit that the ability to enlarge the print would be nice. I am much more aware of the size of print and the spacing between lines than I used to.

I'm looking forward to when I get an ereader - for the simple reason that I'm getting tired of holding books. One of my once favorite, prized possessions - and now the lightweight ereaders will make me so happy. I'm just hoping they don't tire my eyes more.

I keep eye drops handy (just liquid tears) for when my eyes get tired. I was diagnosed with dry eyes some years back and they are necessary for me. Those of you who get tired reading might want to try them.
