As you know, Liz, that's my kind of fun ;) Your kayak is just like mine! You weren't influenced, by any chance, when you used it, were you? It is a bit small for a big dog, but Rags fits fine. He loves to go. He gets very relaxed and naps. Never been a problem. I think you are a great photographer and I'm really enjoying your photos :D Looks like you and Beth are having a great time! What is this campground/lake or river?

Absolutely I was influenced by being able to try out your kayak. I wanted to know how one handled before investing in it after a previous disappointing inflatable I once had. I was lucky to find one of the few remaining ones in stock of that model.

We are on Lake Guntersville, AL in Honeycomb Campground.

Great pics, Beth. I love the first one of Liz and Roe, she should have an enlarged one like that framed.

Enjoyed your photos, too, Beth! The birds you were wondering about are called Killdeer. Not such a nice name for such a pretty bird

You got some great bird pics, Beth. I especially like the osprey in flight and the hummingbirds. Oh, and the heron on shore.

Glad you enjoyed the pics- and THANKS for knowing that's a killdeer - neat bird. Liz told me she thought they were plovers- and it turns out the killdeer is a plover - so everyone is right.

I took tons of pics of Liz and Roe - unfortunately, none of the pics of them getting into the kayak and into the water turned out. It was dark looking into that direction at that time- and when I tried using the night or fast speed settings, I couldn't hold still long enough. Something about the kayak moving in the water, maybe? So, I was happy that so many of my others turned out to give a selection. The thing I love about the digital camera - is I can just keep taking pic after pic - some of them will be acceptable - some even better!

I love when Liz and I do things together - then post - as we have totally different pictures and perspectives. See different things, etc. It's great.

If I remember correctly from my youth on the farm, the Killdeer's song sounds like the word Kill deer, with the emphasis on the deer. They nested in our hayfields and when you approached their nests they would fly about 30 ft away and act like they were injured as to attract you away from thier nests. They would continue as long as you kept following them.

..
We have Killdeer in our yard all the time. They build their nest on some raised gravel paths that we put in (mostly now covered with grass) and their eggs (always 4 of them) look a lot like rocks. When I see both mom and dad hanging around, I'll walk toward them and then walk the opposite way that they run and then start looking for the nest. When I find it, I put a landscaper's flag by it so they aren't run over by The Crazed Lawn Mower Man...

The babies are adorable.

ON EDIT: I forgot to add this link to their sounds/calls: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=18
