I'm bad :(

Postby Lori » Wed Aug 04, 2010 10:16 am

I am so sorry that I joined than just dropped off the face of the earth  I have had alot on my plate as of late....Lets see where to start. My husband called and said he was coming home from Iraq for a few days before leaving again for Afghanistan for a year....So I held off picking up my camper til he came home which was on the July 27th We went and picked it up on the 30th (He liked it very much).

Now a little history on the 5th wheel I had to buy used because as much as I wanted new I did not want a payment...So I paid cash ($7gs) I thought I would start off with this one and work up to new someday. Well being used it had wear and tear but was in decent shape and I knew cosmetics I could change and it would be fun to make it my own with my flair :D one of the things it had was some rippling on the master ceiling (small) but I asked the dealership is this unit LEAKING !! They told me NO it had with the previous owners but they brought it in and we repaired it. I as several times and the answer was always no.

So being reassured that there was NO leaks I could patch the ceiling paint and make it clean and off I would go :) So Back to the story......

We picked the camper up on a Friday, Saturday My husband said let me help you replace the small damaged area and than can do the rest. (I was so excited to get started) He cut the area away started to pull it down and a gush of water spilled out :o I was sick !!! We pulled every thing out till there was no water....Well it ended up being the entire front EVERYTHING. This leak has been going on for a long time.....The mold was horrible and no doubt kill some one if it was not found.

So Tuesday I dropped my husband off at the airport and said my good byes, went home and and hooked up the trailer and dumped it right in front of the entrance to the dealership  ( Mind you this was trail by fire I had to drive this rig for the very first time through construction and heavy city lunch hour traffic ) I was scared to death but I AM WOMAN and I did fine :) I handed the owner pictures and told him I have copies and I am giving him the opportunity first to make this right or I will seek counsel.....He said one way or another he will handle this.

Well guess there will be no camping this year for me and my boys :(

I would have done the same thing you did!!! Drive it right back down there. But honestly...I would simply ask then for a different trailer...or get your $$ back.
Not sure I would trust them after they said they had repaired the leak...maybe they did, but they did not dry things out, and make sure there was no hidden damage happening.

Welcome back. So sorry about the problems with your rig. Have you asked him to replace it completely with another rig?

You have been dealing with allot. First of all, thank you to your husband for his service and you, too, as a military wife is a hard job at best.
I'm sorry you've had to deal with an unliveable "new to you" rig. How disappointing!
Stand firm! I'd try getting my $$ back or have them totally search and replace all damaged areas, but when dealing with mold, I'd say the best action is to replace the rig. JMHO Good luck!

Honestly I don't know what to do :( It was a as is sale I don't even want this rig any more I feel it is a disaster waiting to happen (more structural problems). my fear is they will come back and say we will not refund your money...We will fix it. and by Colorado law as long as they are trying to resolve the problem I think I have to accept the rig back.

I am waiting on a call from a Lawyer. Talk about a negative spin on camping...Hope this is not a sign.

I do come and read the post here and I still look forward to the adventure :D I will just live through your adventures for the time being ;)

Aw, Lori, that's sad. But give them a chance to make good - and see what your lawyer says. They might offer you another 5th wheel that works out to be a better deal for you. As is often said- sometimes things happen for a reason. You'll be out camping - just not this week. Hang in there. And hey, you did GOOD - you drove it like a pro back there. So, yep, YOU ARE WOMAN - and you will prevail.

Lori, sorry to hear about your 5er.......glad you contacted a lawyer...as I believe there maybe some laws that may help you as a military spouse/couple....but for the life of me, I can't quote them now....( Ernie retired from the Army 18 yrs. ago...and the memory is one of those things that goes first...  ) Yes, give the dealer some time to make things right, but stick to your guns.... ;)

I'm so glad you drove the rig back all by yourself....Military wives can do anything..... ;) :D

Goodness after my throwing a hissy fit My camper is being repaired :) The entire master bedroom is being gutted and redone.

The owner of the shop who was at first nice til he saw the damage told me not so nicely " Talking down at me.

"That we will have to put in over $2500.00 in this unit and will now not be making any money on it . It is an older unit so if your thinking we will make it all brand new It will not happened. "

Well I got mad and asked him "What did you just say ?" ( I never took my eyes off his) This was our conversation:

Owner- I said don't expect it to be like a brand new unit.It is old and never will be.

Me- I never said or expected a 1994 unit to come out as a 2010.It is a 1994 model... But I do expect from you Being the expert in Rv's and the owner of this dealership that sold me a inhabitable unit to make this right....So we can do this one of two ways....You can fix the problem without complain to me or I will seek council.

He said they will fix it and no need to take legal action....I told him thank you and shook his hand,Told him I would be back occasionally to take picture to see it was being done correct ( the molded boards torn out) got in my car drove around the corner and started crying. I could not stop shaking to the point I had to pull my car over....I thought "Boy was I a Bitch !!" It made me feel bad. The next time I see him should I apologize ?

So here it is started..

I'm glad they're getting it fixed. No, I don't think you should apologize. If after they complete the work and you have a opportunity to stay in it and make sure it doesn't leak, you could send him a thanks for honoring his word. I guess I'm just skeptical, but I say don't show any weakness until it's like you want it, you may tested again before it's all said and done. That's my opinion.

I'm with Vickie....AFTER the repairs meet your satisfaction you can give him that wonderful complimentary "what a fine company that stands behind their word" letter ...if you still feel his conduct deserves it. From here out you can be pleasant but firm.....I like the steady eye contact and confident words focus........It is much stronger than the cussing and screaming the angry male customer lets loose with. Just saying..

I agree with the others - you have no reason to apologize. You were right and doing what was necessary. And you didn't let him take advantage of you. You did GOOD. And keep going back to keep an eye on them and the work. Very smart.
