Need to borrow a rig ASAP

Postby Pebbles » Fri May 28, 2010 2:46 pm

I have had a little bad luck but Im healthy :D So Im staying with my sister while making payments on my first rig and the person Im buying it from calls me and tells me that his son borrowed the motorhome while they were away and something is cracked underneath and will be expensive to fix and does not want me to have to pay for his son being careless. (we had an arrangement but his son was in college and just came home, took the keys and drove off without asking, he had no knowledge his father had sold the motorhome to someone ) The motorhome was inspected by a professional and was in great condition. Im just really bummed out because my money is as good as gone. The previous owner has to make payments back to me  I need a rig asap for my first workcamper job in NY. Does anyone know how I could get a rig to use? I've searched online everywhere with no luck, tried to find someone to loan me theirs but being summer that just hasnt worked out. Ive overstayed my welcome at my sisters house and basically have three days to figure out my problem before I have to turn down my job and become homeless with the furkids. Lesson learned: Backup plan

Makes me wonder if that is his true story or if he found someone to just pay cash outright for it, ya never know. I thought you were supposed to already be workcamping by this time?

Yeah, this happend at the end of last month, I should have been there May 1st and they gave me until May 31st to get there and I have not come up with any answers :x I had to pay for rent and other things this last month so I lost my gas money to get there and have been working 12 hour days driving a taxi trying to make it up. My entire timeline was just shot with that one issue.

The person I was buying it from was being honest because we found out his son took it when I went to pick it up. Oil EVERYWHERE! Something underneath cracked the oil pan area and the metal whatnot next to it as well. It was a $2,000 fix and considering I was putting breaks on all tired prior to leaving as well as a generator tune up my costs would have put me in the hole more than my plan which I had just enough to get from WI to NY (gas) and food/tolls/pet vaccinations.

I do have to say that this all stinks big time but Im very thankfull my health is excellent. The weather here in Green Bay has been weird (hot, rainy, dry, cold) and my asthma has been fine. As a taxi driver I have personally driven five people to the ER because of breathing problems this week alone! I knock on wood every time I pass a tree lately lol

I would think it's the owners responsibility to repair the damage his son did, but maybe this wasn't the rv for you, who knows. Hopefully the owner will return the money you have paid down on it.

It does stink. I doubt you'll find anyone to loan you a rig. Mine is my baby. I know of folks who won't let their own children or sis or brother borrow their rigs. And I can understand it. And what just happened (if it happened as he says) is one of the reasons.

I hate to think of you homeless. Hope you can find another option.

Maybe you can find someone in the area you are going to that has one. They can take it to the site, set it up and monitor things. We did that with friends of ours two summer's ago. They were homeless for a few months. We let them use the trailer for 3 weeks. We took it to the park and set it all up and DH checked in on things every couple of days, as the park was only a mile from his work.

Bummer news though.

Oh, that made me think - contact the people you are to workamp for - they might know of a tt that could be used. Might even have one. And there are workamp jobs out there that have housing included - not many you can take furkids to - only one you can do that I know of for sure is Kaibab Lodge near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. If where you are going can't help you and you can't get something in time - you could check them out. Would be a way to save more money while you are still looking for your own rig.

I believe that things happen for a reason....this may not be the rig for you, or the job for you. Who knows? But one thing for sure, your health is more important than both those things. I'll be praying that things work out for your best interests.

I agree w/ Vicki that the owner was /is responsible and should fix it for you....... oh well, just my 2 cents!

Best of luck finding a solution. We are all pulling for you, girl!

My mind was thinking like Beth's. If you haven't already done so, you need to contact your employers and tell them your plight. It wouldn't be fair to just blow them off when you can't get there. Besides, they may have a solution for you - perhaps they have rental units, or an old trailer sitting out in the back forty, or know of someone in the park who for one reason or another can't use their RV for awhile and may be willing to rent it to you.

If they can't offer any hope, you will have to accept that this job isn't for you and somewhere, somehow another door will open up.

Good Luck!

How soon is this guy going to pay you back the money that you had put down on the camper? :?: I'd say he'd better get his hinder to a bank and take out a loan because he has left you up the proverbial creek.

And, yes, HE backed out of this deal. He does not get a grace period to pay you back all funds you've paid him. Immediately.

Did you sign anything regarding the payments, etc? Do you have cancelled checks from your payments to him? I would say if he doesn't reimburse you ASAP, to take him to court and sue him for it plus any other expenses incurred.
