On the road again

Postby retiredhappy » Tue Apr 13, 2010 4:35 pm

I decided to leave Kerrville this morning cause weather report said it might rain tomorrow. Well, instead of checking the weather where I AM, I need to check on which direction the weather is coming from. Instead of leaving bad weather behind I drove right into it altho it turned out to be just a few sprinkles and a LOT of wind. Maybe someday before I die, I can drive 10 west WITHOUT the wind blowing me all over the road.

Right now I'm sitting at Exit 233 and going to stay here for the night. Don't have any signal for my Verizon aircard so am using the free Wifi that a lot of Texas reststops have. As you can see, I have a great signal. Am going to take my time getting to Silver City so will probably spend tomorrow night in Deming or?????

Sophie has gotten this RVing stuff down pretty well. She is almost as good as my two other guys going to the bathroom on command. She and Buddy are on the sofa together and Sassy is on the bed. Tough life, huh?

Well, its 5 o'clock somewhere so am going to have my glass of wine. Sure hope some of you can visit me in Silver City this summer. I hear there's a big RVW rally in Mesa AZ in October - anyone thinking of going?

ROFLMAO!! Sorry Karen, but don't hold your breath about no wind on the 10, either East or West! I've been driving that freeway by myself and with DH before he passed for over 20 years, and I have yet to drive it in calm weather! The 40's not any better, either! And you never know where I'm gonna show up....the 10 would be a nice change to come back from Hot Springs, Ak. Silver City is one of my favorite places.

Have safe travels, Karen. I saw the pic of your rest area on your blog, at least it's not raining.

Talk about wind. I have a couple of friends who own an older Southwind MH. 32 footer I think. They are on vacation right now touring in Ohio and Indiana. Got an email from her the other night and she said they encountered winds while heading from Michigan to Ohio in the 50 mph category which blew them all over the road and actually blew open their awning on the side of the rig  . Said it was quite an undertaking to get it rolled back up in that wind. Luckily a couple of young guys stopped to help. Gee, that must be scary driving down the highway and have your awning get unrolled like that.

Karen - have a safe and enjoyable trip. Glad to hear Sophie is as comfortable traveling as Buddy and Sassy.
Going to miss you being in the Hill Country this summer, but I know it will be MUCH more tolerable than here!
Have a GREAT summer!

It would be and one shouldn't be on the road when it is that windy ....we were on 90 going across SD and it was so windy even the truckers were getting off (we were already off) at a campground just off the freeway so we were able to watch them leave...we stayed over another day due to it... Don't envy them at all!

Get off 10 and take some of the back roads - you won't go as fast and you won't feel the wind so much - those trucks are terrible in the wind. When Jean and I were headed east, and she had that problem with her hitch, the guys who fixed it were glad we weren't getting on the interstate - said the back roads were better - and we certainly agree - most of the time. Didn't take any longer either - and wasn't as nail-biting, at least for me, as the interstates can be.

I feel for you with the wind, tho, that's what I hate most - and we had some bad winds coming east, too. Luckily, after the first couple days, it died down for us - hope it does for you also. Take you time and enjoy the trip.

Karen,
How long will you be in NM? I also dislike to travel in the wind, my B gets tossed all over the road. Glad to hear it isn't only the B, but everyone else feels the wind :)

blessings and safe travels

Safe travels, I wish for you Karen. I am with Beth, take the back roads and ENJOY your trip. You said you weren't in a hurry, so be sure and 'smell the roses' on the way. Fighting the wind is NOT fun.

Try and ENJOY the trip to Silver City, Karen. Know you are looking forward to getting to one of your favorite states. Glad Sophie is measuring up to the others  while traveling. Don't know what are plans are after Europe, tGM is not wanting to go up the east coast again, so don't know what we'll be doing. He's even talking about buying a house somewhere :o carold
