Scary Movies

Postby Mollysmom » Wed Mar 24, 2010 9:57 am

I've finally found a friend that likes scary movies !!! It's fun to have someone to watch movies with.
A couple of weeks ago we watch "Paranormal Activity" which wasn't even a little bit scary, we had allot of fun making fun of the movie though so it was still a good time.
Tonight she's coming over and we're watching "When a Stranger Calls Back" or "Identity" - I've seen Identity and it's awesome, but it's been awhile so I wouldn't mind seeing it again - I think I've seen the other movie many years ago, but it's been awhile. Either way it should be fun.
I'm just wondering what scary movies you all like ?!?! She and I will be planning our next movie night after tonight's movie is over so I'm looking for some movies that would be good.
Thanks for any suggestions !!!
p.s. - I just re-read this and I sound like an idiot, but I hope you'll get what I'm saying !! I've think I wrote "fun" and "movie" about a zillion time - I need to get a thesaurus !!!

I LOVE scary movies. That's why I went and saw Shutter Island but was disappointed. I also like movies like The Net with Sandra Bullock. I'll have to see Identity. Thanks

I like SciFi IF its not the "monster ate the world" type. I prefer comedies IF they aren't too slapstick. Sorry to fans but I never "got" the Three Stooges. Just thought they were dumb. I like subtle English humor, too. Did like the Airplane movies - so silly they were funny.

When I was younger I LOVED scary movies! Now, not so much, I guess I know now that scary things CAN happen and there are crazy people out there. We watched "The Blind Side" last night, I really liked it, made me tear up a couple of times.

Enjoy your scarey movies Trudy. Make sure you've got lots of popcorn.
Karen, I HATE slapstick (especially the 3 Stooges) and always have. Now a nice romantic comedy, I love those. My favorite movie right now would be The Notebook. Sweet comedy AND a great love story!!

I really don't like the 3 Stooges either - just way too stupid and sort of mean too.
I like a good mystery movie too - I always watched Murder She Wrote and still do if I see it on reruns -
I enjoy watching movies where there's some freaky, mutant animal like giants spiders or bugs or one of my favorite Komodo ! Giant Komodo dragons - they're so dang silly that I like them. Obviously I'm somewhat twisted :D
Just came from the store & I got Maui Onion Potato Chips (my fav) JellyBelly jelly beans (Kelly's fav) and some shrimp since we're getting together at 6 and some real food could be good - I know we both like shrimp. Looking forward to being scared :D

When I was little, they always played the 3 Stooges right before the real movie started. It always made me cry because they were being so mean to each other! Eventually, I learned to stay in the lobby until the movie started.

The two scary movies I remember watching as a kid were "The Birds" and "The Blob". I still like to watch "The Birds" when it is on TV. Otherwise I do not like scary or violent movies. Mostly watch comedies, animated movies, etc. Anything that makes me laugh or feel good afterward :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

My older son and I liked the scary and sci-fi tv shows when he was little. When they started making them like the Jason and the Nightmare ones I quit watching them. I remember going to see the Blob when I was in High School and my little brother wouldn't go upstairs alone for months. They did the remake of the Blob here in Abbeville. We went and watched the filming in the downtown area for a while but it got to be boring. They kept doing the same things over and over. When the movie came out my kids wanted to know where the mountains were. I don't know where they filmed the mountains because you can't get much flatter than around here. I think the first one was better.

I liked Murder She Wrote and the PBS mysteries. And the really old Charlie Chan movies. I haven't seen one of them in a long time. The only recent movie that I thought about going to see is Alice in Wonderland. For some reason I liked Beetle Juice. I will watch that dumb movie every time I see it playing.

I didn't like when they were playing the Three Stooges on tv because all the boys would be doing the same stupid things they did. They would play the reruns every couple of years and you would have to put up with it again.

Enjoy your movie night. BOO

Funny, I didn't like the 3 Stooges either - they were simply mean. And Jean and I were just talking the other day about how neither of us liked Jerry Lewis. His movies were simply dumb. Just tried to watch a comedy I bought for $1 and it's too dumb to enjoy, not the type of comedy I wanted, unfortunately.

I like some scary movies and not others, too. It depends on how it's meant to be scary. What was the one with only 2 characters in the boat on the sea where he was going to kill her? I liked that. That's more realistic scary. And I liked The Birds. I don't like the totally stupid - just for gore or bloods sake scary - and those they make all the sequels to. I wish I remembered the scary movie that really got me in the early 60's. Geez, it was good. But I'd probably see it today and laugh.

This thread is easy for me to answer, as, mostly, I don't like ANY movies! After Bambi when I was about 2 and a half, I can't even stand the smell or taste of popcorn as it reminds me of that wretched theater where Bambi's mom was killed!

I did, however, love Quo Vadis, Spartacus, The Red Sea one about Moses, and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. There was one other Roman spectacle I loved with chariots racing----can't remember the name of it, but it was very long. Also, there was a good movie I saw about a bunch of nuns (or maybe just women, some of whom were nuns) that got marooned at an old abandoned camp due to a car or bus accident---I think it was called Strangers in Good Company, and it was a movie to really make you think----I loved it. I believe it was a true story, and had most of the real people starring in it. Maybe that's why I really liked it.

Other than those movies, documentaries are me! And all those above movies were always viewed at home to avoid the people talking in front of me, eating icky-smelling popcorn, paying for a horrid seat with smelly people all around me and talking kids or screaming babies.

That about sums up how I feel about movies!

Happy travels!

I pretty much never go to the movie theatre - just too much money ! I prefer movies at home where I can eat my own snacks and hit pause when I want to pee.
I love the movie the Birds - I always watch it when it's on. Remember The Tingler !?!?! I rented that a year or so ago and it was still pretty scary ! Stupid, but scary.
I don't like the blood & gore stuff too much - if it makes sense in the movie it's OK, but gore just for the sake of it isn't good. I like the suspense of watching a scary movie - in the one we're watching tonight the "bad guy" dresses so he blends into the background of the home he's hiding in so you can't see him even though he's standing right there !!! In the clip he's camouflaged as a brick wall and you can't see him till he opens his eyes - Yikes !!

I grew up watching Shock Theater. Anyone remember that show? It came on at 10:15pm on Saturday nights, right after the news. Me and my bros. and sisters would all get on the sofa with a blanket covering us (no toes exposed or hanging over the edge). We saw all the Boris Karloff and Lon Chaney oldies: Dracula, The Werewolf, The Mummy and Frankenstein. I still love The Ghost and Mrs Muir and Hush, Hush Sweet Charolotte. Never got into Psycho. Liked The Birds and most Hitchcock movies. Niagra with Marilyn Monroe is good, too.
Soos, you probably are thinking of Ben Hur?
Oh, and I loved all the Tammy movies with Debbie Reynolds, Long Hot Summer with Paul Newman and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and most of the old musicals.
Tugboat Annie and the Shirley Temple movies, too.
Ok, I watch too much TV.... ;)

I love scary movies, and sci fi as well.
Beth, I think your thinking Dead Calm, a couple on a boat and some looney tune
got on there with them and was trying to kill them all. Been a very long time since
I've seen that one and there were 3 of them, the original a very long time ago and
then two remakes. All three were good. I call those kind suspense movies and I
love suspense movies too.
