Feb. showers bring May flowers?

Postby VickieP » Thu Feb 04, 2010 6:10 pm

We've been having so much rain lately, we darn sure better have some pretty May flowers. If they haven't all floated away. The rain started last night and continued all day, just steady, not heavy ( ). We got almost 3 inches and the water has already started going down now, so we've not gonna flood this time. There is a drainage ditch along one side of our property, that's what's holding the water in these pics.

This shot is from the neighbor's driveway.

This is looking straight down the side ditch. Normally it's only a couple of feet wide.

These next two are of the back area, behind the garage.

Wow. Thatsalottawater. I live in the desert, and not used to getting THAT kind of rain. Glad you have a built-in drainage.

PS: Like your garage.

Thanks Janice, we made the garage a pull thru so we didn't have to back the RV in. My nephew owns a metal bldg. company and he put it up and the metal roof on the house. We had to raise the 12ft. door openings to get this new RV in.

Janice, I live in the desert and you should have seen my back half acre after our first big rain this year...there was an actual river running right thru the middle of it!

Vickie, I NEED that drive thru barn!!!! If you were a real friend, you would give it to me!!

Since I'm getting your left over rain, I sure hope I don't see that much. I'm sick and tired of the wet stuff. Not having fun in this wet stuff. The May flowers will have drowned and will be afraid to peak their beautiful heads out of the ground/water.

Holy crap Vickie!!! Well at least with the pull thru doors the water can 'run' thru too. Dang it that drainage ditch needs to be a whole lot deeper and wider! Good grief. If you get flooded again you had better build higher and install a ramp for Ronnie!

Well whatever goodies that Shad left in that field and I missed are gone now!!!!

Just a little more rain and your whole yard would have been under water! You need to dredge that ditch a little deeper!

Actually that's just one side of the yard, we have 1.3 acres. The drainage ditch is maintained by the Gravity Drainage Board and they come out and dig it every once in a while, but the water was moving/draining so it was good. :D

It probably looks like that at my house but I'm in Philadelphia. When that rain gets up here they are predicting a foot of snow. I sure hope not. My son had surgery to repair a leaking heart valve and I'm staying with him at the hospital. If it snows that much I hope they keep us til next week. The hospital is full and when he got out of intensive care they put us in a VIP suite. I didn't even know hospitals had VIP rooms. They even brought me a cot to sleep on. Darn, I was so looking forward to sleeping on one of those chairs that turns into a bed. lol We will probably get evicted tomorrow.

Martha, I hope your son has a speedy recovery and they don't get too much snow while you are up there. How long are you going to stay?

Wow Vickie! You must hold your breath every time it rains heavy. You look like an island, surrounded by rising waters. Glad it's not as bad as it looks.

It just started snowing about 30 minutes ago and we can't see the tall buildings now that we could see before it started snowing. This will be my first blizzard and they really didn't have to have one for me.

My son is doing good and we should get out of the hospital Monday. Just hope it quits snowing before then. I am planning on going home the 13th if he doesn't need me any longer.

It just wanted to welcome you to the northeast in the winter time.

Good to hear that he will be well enough to go home by Monday. That's great!
