Looked at a Pleasure Way today!!

Postby AlmostThere » Thu Jun 18, 2009 4:01 pm

I was excited to see a used Pleasure Way for sale in the paper the other day, and finally went and checked it out today! It's a 2000 with 55K miles on it, gets 14 mpg, 350 Dodge Magnum V8 engine. It had normal wear both inside and out, but I'm having a hard time seeing past the interior colors of blue carpet/seats and white cabinets. Just not what I want. Oh, and I guess the guy liked me as out of the blue he came down $2000! Here's some self explanatory pics.

Actuallly I like the white cabinet - makes it look open and airy. Put seat covers on the driver's and passenger's seats. Make a sofa cover and die any carpet you can see. My rig was also that icky blue color. I painted all my cupboards which were kind of an orangey wood color, pulled out the carpet and put in vinyl flooring and made sofa/dinette covers which are removable and washable. I still had a little bit of carpet showing in a few areas I couldn't remove so I bought a product at a craft store that you add to regular paint to make it a "fabric paint" and used a paint brush to change the color of the carpet. Its a little stiff but its not walked on. They put carpet up the "wall" where the toilet is and also on a shelf by the bed. Dumb!!! Its got to be men who design/decorate these rigs.

Be sure you actually drive it. I loved my used Class B BUT it had a lot of play in the wheel which made you really tired while driving only a short distance.

now see, we all have our likes and dislikes and for me I love white cabinets, been
thinking about painting mine, and I have blue carpet but it shows dirt so easily I'm
wanting to get rid of it. It drives me crazy trying to keep it clean. Does that bathroom
have a shower in it too?

Ava, the bathroom has a wet shower, meaning you stand in that little space in front of the toilet and the entire bathroom gets wet. Not for me!

Lenora,
Sounds like Liz's, except she had twin beds in the rear. You have a good configuration there for one person. She can give you more info.

I like the white cabinets in the small space because they make it seem roomier - and I'm not a white cabinet person. What I don't like about them is how they show everything - if you get your hand dirty and touch one, better be there with a cloth to clean it right now :)

Have you looked at RoadTrek's? Just curious. Out of the 2, with the info I've had - would probably pick a RoadTrek. As long as it had the wet shower. Some do, some don't. But that's just me.

lenora, I have a wet bath in my camper and it's really fine. After showering, a few wipe downs and it's clean (can anyone say SHAM WOW?). Works for me. If it's not your thing, thats ok too. There should be more showing up. Or how about a conversion van? One that you could make up to exactly what you want. Why pay for things you don't want in the RV. Just another viewpoint. Good luck with the hunt. Linda

It sounds like there really wasn't anything you liked about this rig. I just can't see buying something that you don't like just to have it. If it was just one thing that would be easy to change it would be one thing, but not when you have to change the complete interior. Keep looking!

Sharon, that was my feelings on it, too. Everyone says you know when it's suppose to be your rig as you'll love it right away. I just didn't have that experience and I think I was trying to force myself to just because class Bs are so hard to find in the NW and this one also was well taken care of.
I've not been a fan of the Roadtreks. First because of the aisle shower and secondly the Pleasure Way Excel is 8 inches wider so there is some extra room inside. Bs are pretty tight inside to begin with and that extra few inches really made a difference in the models I've seen at RV shows.

The RT's do have some models with the wet bath - and I believe some are wider, but not sure. I agree about the space, tho. I don't know if the Pleasure Way has different interior cabinet colors - but keep looking at them. And, no, don't buy one by making yourself like it - you'll usually end up regretting that. I have must haves and would likes - will not change from my must haves - but the would likes - yep, would. Then again, I'll hate it when I ever have to give my current home up - I love this layout so much - and even tho some are similar, they aren't the same. Yep, I knew when I set foot in this one, that it was for me.

Lenora, just out of curiosity, why are you so set on a "B"? They really don't make a lot of sense money-wise when you can get a small class c for a lot less. They're just as easy to park and drive, more floor space and since you have to pay to store one anyway.....Just being nosy.

It's good that you went to check it out anyway Lenora! The more you can look at and get inside, the better you will know 'yours' when you find it! I looked at several models in my year, but not PRICE range, over many months. That gave me a good solid base to work from when I did find the "one" for me. My two cents....look at all the B's you can, even Road Treks. I think the shopping is half the fun!

Yep, you are correct, Sharon. Class Bs are very expensive. For sometimes half the cost one can get into a Class C or even an A! It's just a size/style that strikes a cord with me. I don't really think I need anything bigger than a B or a B+ as I only plan to take short trips. I'm more of a traveler than a camper, and pretty much a minimalist when it comes to 'stuff' so don't feel the need for bigger. I want something I'll be comfortable driving/handling in traffic, too.

Diana, I know RT is coming out with a model that has a closed bathroom but I believe it's on a narrow body. I haven't seen one in person yet but I'd like to. Like I said, I have been looking at Bs for over a year now, they just aren't found in this part of the US. Well, at least the PWs and RTs aren't. There are some B+ types (Winnebago View, Avion etc), but none I've liked, nor can afford! The only RV dealership in Portland that sold Bs has closed. That's 2 of our biggest RV dealerships gone in the past couple months! I've checked places in the Seattle area online and can only find a couple RTs (sprinter) in their inventories.

Lenora, The sistahs have lots of good information and viewpoints for ya. Keep looking and you will find yours! But....don't limit yourself to the NW. Remember, you can drive anywhere and look. If it is what you want, then you can work out a deal and pick it up! Just think, you could end up looking at one in Tucson, RVing capital of the world, stop by and see Ava on you way down and see Sparkle on you way home and then you would be half to somewhere when you pick it up! Just my crazy idea!

Lenora,
A B+ and a C are pretty much the same thing - just a few minor differences. That said, my C is only 22 feet long - some of the RT's and PleasureWays are just as long. The big difference inside and out is storage. Drivability - almost no difference. Look at some of the small C's and B+'s (which can be called C's someplaces, and not others). Then, look for the used ones. I seriously looked at B's when I first was looking (before I knew I'd be full time) and I just couldn't justify the price. And while I've absolultely loved a few of the B's - I wouldn't give up the space in my little C.

That's just me, though. Oh, the one way a B (not a B+) might be easier to drive is that you can use the back window to look out. I've learned to drive using mirrors - and always to look behind me from outside before I get in to back up. But I had a van that didn't have a good access back window, so had to learn to do that years ago.

Good luck - whatever you end up getting.

And now you can have back-up cameras installed on any vehicle. Our F-450 came with one already, makes it easy to hitch up, as long as I remember to turn off the back-up sensor that beeps when something is back there  .
