where's Sheila?

Postby snowball » Sun Apr 19, 2009 12:45 am

thought that I would join the where is??? club.
We had spent the winter in Quartzsite AZ and had planned on leaving there April 15th but the week before we got a frantic call from on of our dd's telling us that one of our dd's had been put into the hospital with major depression and tthe words she wants you. We got our self all packed up when you are settled and been in a place for several months that is a not fast venture. Jenny will tell you how much we had to pack up. She had called us on Tues. Morning and by Weds. am we were on our way...Wouldn't you know it I was getting ready to call Jenny and say hey we need to come to Yuma lets do lunch...didn't happen but there is always next fall!!!
Just outside of Parker AZ either in Cal or Nev not sure wish and right now I couldn't tell you the highway number but we were headed to Vegas just after some RR tracks we came to a bump sign as we were going slow anyway from the RR tracks we didn't expeck the jolt that we got...as dh put it it was like the bump to the end of the world...the sign should have said crawl over...if you find this place in your travels be forwarned...anyway dh apoligized for the jolt and we went on our way not knowing the damage done...
I rarley go into the 5th wheel tell we get to where we will spend the night when we travel...was so surprised when we stopped the printer was in two pieces...several things where broken some repareable others not...some know that I used to try making dolls and some travel with us...I was really concerned about them as they travel in the back of the 5th wheel where the jolt would have really been felt...I put them in a plastic bin which has been lined with bubble wrap one doll is too tall for the bins and so she lays on top of the two bins 2 dolls in each bin...this time for some reason I put her head to the back and her feet to the front...good move easier to replace a leg than a head...one bin the one on the bottom was totally broken but the doll faired well....my husband got a ash tray stand from his dad which we kept even though we don't smoke it makes a great candle holder..it was split but glue took care of it...a stand had apiece of wood chip out again glue and the lazy boy was broken but again dh took care of it so we don't have to see if the warrenty was any good...it would have cost us 69 dollars to have them come out to see if any of the damage was covered. Too night discovered that my one doll that was on the bed had her eyes loosened and they have fallen back in her head...repairable..most of this we didn't discover until we got to SLC when we could put the slides out and look. on a planter broke in halve plant needed repotted any way...
When we were going into the truck stop in Cedar City to have supper I didn't see that the pavement had a raise in it and biffed it big time...got up and limped in to the building knee hurt like crazy but was walking!! thought wow this is so going to bruise!! not hurts when I put pressure on it like kneeling to stand up (getting up from floor after changing 2 year olds) no bruises almost disappointed if you are going to biff it need the outward sign so you can milk it right?? a week later I found bruising on my toes of all things and the sides of my foot and the foot is swollen can't believe it is broken no pain .
DD is out of hospital and on short time disability needs to see therpist twice a week and lots of meds...well no more than she was taking but more of it so hopefully this won't happen again...the last time was 5 years ago...we understand that it is a disease but really hard to fully understand that some times you just can't pull your self up with your big girl panties....so all is well we are in SLC at the moment after having spent a week in ID (we left the 5er stored at KOA) now back dh will go back up to dd's and I will stay here as mother of the bride have to take care of youngest daughter and her needs...this would be a good time for cloning ;)
all is well now just thought I'd share for the moment

Holy Cow, Sheila! You have had quite the April! I guess it sounds as if you have things under control now, once you get all those broken items repaired in your rig. I couldn't quite tell if you decided you broke your foot, or not, but, if you did, I sure hope you have it set properly so you will be able to continue to walk as you get older. You two were REALLY fast to get yourselves on the road after only a day's notice! What a shame that you found that literal rough road while on your own rough road to help a child of yours.

Thanks for letting us know your whereabouts and all that is going on. Once a mommy, always a mommy-----no matter how old the children. I hope the last part of the month will be happier for you and your family than the first half! Stay in touch when you are able.

Hugs from me and Molly

As most of you know, I suffer from depression. The daughter of a friend of mine was recently hospitalized for depression and suicidal thoughts. I told her to tell her daughter that this is the beginning of a NEW life, not the beginning of the end. I have never been hospitalized, but friends have -- and with continuing help are thriving. By taking the initiative to seek serious treatment, she is on (what can be a rocky) journey of recovery.

The "big girl pants" come into play not in shaking off depression, but rather when one is courageous enough to ask for help in confronting the baffling and self-condemning nature of depression. She IS wearing her "big girl pants." Godspeed to her, and to you.

I would think that recovering from that deep a depression would be a long hard row to hoe. Have patience with her. It's so easy to say, snap out of it. I have my suicide stash, but its like a promise to myself, I have a way out if I need it. Things would have to be very bad before I went there, but its a comfort to know I'll never be strapped into a wheelchair in some crummy nursing home (my own personal nightmare)

Oh my gosh, things one on top of the other. I don't suffer from depression but lived with a man for 10 years who was (is) manic depressive. When he went into a full blown profession one time, he spent a month in the hospital - and that was the time I was proudest of him - because he finally realized that what he had was a disease and there was help. He still hated that the ups weren't so high - but that depression he became very suicidal. It's hard for those of us who don't feel those feelings to quite understand - but part of his therapy was (and is) to "look on the bright side" - which took training with a therapist to do. It's amazing what the power of positive thoughts can be for all of us - And, of course, the meds he needs.

My thoughts are with you and all of your family - what a time you've had. Glad you have been able (or will be able) to fix all the damage caused to what you have in the 5th wheel.

Had to chuckle, when I read about your 'suicide stash' Sparkle, as I, too, have one buried in the yard in an ammunition case! My only nightmare is that I become too addled or paralyzed to drag myself to it or find it before they strap me into a wheelchair and incarcerate me. I am still in awe of how alike we seem to think!

No suicide stash for me...I do have a Living Will, and a will to live. In fact, by God's grace, I plan to live forever...so far so good.

i've been thinking about Sheila's daughter off and on all day today. I never knew my grandfather on my mother's side because he did suicide back in the late 1930s from depression, .. before i was born. I wear his ruby ring as a connection to a grandfather that i love, although whom I never had a chance to show love. The treatments of today's world would probably have helped him. So the fact that Sheila's daughter is working on this great challenge shows that she is storng and willing to fight it,... with help. Thank goodness that help is there now.

My prayers are with your family. I can somewhat understand what you are going through.

My X husband is bi-polar. It was extremely sad and hard living with someone in that condition. He was adamant that everyone else had a problem and that he was the sane one. I stayed with him for 36 yrs and about did myself in, becoming very co-dependant, trying to fix a man that didn't want fixed. After each suicide attempt and hospitalization, once the meds kicked in and he started feeling better, he'd go off of them. He was above any medication he thought. During the divorce, and after, I was in counseling for 1 1/2 yrs to undo do what I allowed him to do to me mentally. It took allot of hard work. Believe me, it's not like on TV where you are well after a few sessions. It's a lifelong commitment to undo your old beliefs about yourself, others and life. I know there are still remaining issues I need to address, too.

God Bless!
