Inflatable Kayaks

Does anyone have any experience with these? I wonder how well they hold up when you get into an area that has sticks, dead heads and rock hiding under the water. I'm very interested in them as my daughter has a real kayak and loves it. I think the inflatable ones would be great as I could take it on the road with me. I can't lift a hard kayak by myself anymore so this just might be the answer for me. I would love to hear from those that have one, or have tried one out.

Lots of us have them. You do a search on them you'll find lots of mention. Mine is very basic, very lightweight and works well for me.

I tried out one at a recent GTG in TN and I was surprised how easy it was to paddle once I got the oars in the right direction, plus it seemed really stable. Liz is having one made to order this week! You can find really light weight ones now and ones that are made from Kevlar (?) that really hold up well. That's all I know :D but like Beth said lots of posts about them so try a search.

I scraped over many a submerged log or rock with my inflatable with no ill effects. I have enjoyed it for several years. However as I near the time when I must replace it, I am replacing it with a Hornbeck made of carbon fiber. It is a hard canoe/kayak that I can carry on my cartop, but weighs only 12 pounds. It's being made now, and when I get it, I will do a blog post about it. Another alternative to the inflatable if you have a vehicle to carry it.

If you go to the gtg room, and look at the recent pictures of the PA gtg going on now, you'll see two inflatable kayaks our members have - a one seater and a two seater. We don't all have the same makes, models, etc ... but lots of us, as I said above, have one (or more in some cases).

what I am wondering....for those of you that take your doggies on the kayak with you....is a single seat'r enough to
have a dog with or would I need the 2 seat'r. You know Maggie isn't very big but I think she would be very happy to
just sit at the front and be with me, she's gotten a little spoiled on this trip ya know. (me spoil a dog?)
I've thought of getting a kayak to add to my journeys :D

I've taken Roe (45lbs) and now Thistle(20lbs) in my one-seat kayak. Admittedly it's easier with the smaller dog. My soon-to-be new kayak will have room for a big dog or two little dogs, not that I plan to acquire any more.

And with my Sea Eagle I have room for two dogs, if I really want to work that hard convincing Stuart that he is suppose to remain inside the kayak regardless of how wonderful that water looks...

What Model Sea eagle do you have? 330 or 370. I ordered the 370 and I'm really excited to get it. I sure hope Butch will like it and not be trying to jump out. My daughter is already planning an outing on a local lake as she has a hard kayak and loves to go.

I used to have a hard kayak and loved it! I have been looking at the Sea Eagle (one person) with the deluxe seats. With the crappy, rainy spring here this year, I decided to wait on it for awhile.
Let me know how you like it!
