Winterized it my very own self ...

Okay, so this may not be a big deal to many of you ladies ... but this is the first time I have NOT laid out $160 to have my RV readied for winter. BOY what a ripoff scheme that is. I had a little bypass valve installed last year, so it took a matter of 15 minutes (and $10 worth of the pink stuff) to winterize -- with the help of an "inside" person to turn faucets on and off. Drove the MH to my son's house, where I will store it for the winter. Life is good.

Went to Lava Hot Springs, ID with my late husband's brother Friday, and we walked the 6.5-acre property DH and I bought a few weeks before he died. We found a beaver dam on the little creek at the bottom of the property.



The grass was armpit-high for me, and there are all kinds of trails through it, with larger areas that are all matted down. The neighbor says it is full of deer at night. Why not? Cover & water. My son has offered to drill a well, install a septic tank, bring in power and put in an RV pad for me (and later, his family) to use until a house is built. I don't deserve such a son.

To cap the day off, BIL and I soaked for about an hour in the city's hot springs. The staff there told me two and a half MILLION gallons of hot mineral water flow through that facility every day ... replacing the water in the pools every two hours. I was just jelly by the time we were ready to drive more than two hours home.

Congrats - and, yes, I call what they charge to winterize a ripoff! Did my own the only time I had to do it - was scared chitless - and then discovered, it was no big deal. Good going.

Nice to soak in a hot springs -and that's one BIG beaver dam.

I loved the gurgle of the creek. Not only could I hear it on my property, but my neighbor up the hill can hear it loud and clear as well. I'd love to build there, but I'd have the same problem there as with my salt lake house ... upkeep while I'm gone. Maybe someday ...

BIL and I are going to split the cost of an appraisal on the studio condo he has for sale in his high-rise building (he has a 2 bdrm upstairs). We're about $20K apart right now. This will give us an idea of whether he wants to sell ... or I want to buy. I told him the most important thing to me is that this real estate negotiations do not damage our relationship. He has been so good to me.

Janice, I'm so glad you got your rig winterizd. I winterize ours also and it really isn't that hard to do. We'll be going out for one more trip in 2 weeks, so I'll put the pink stuff in when we get home from that trip.

Good job, Janice! One nice thing about SoCal, other than the high taxes and the earthquakes is we don't have to winterize. About the only winterizing I do is go up on the roof of the stick house and drain the swamp coolers. We rv year round here. Isn't it amazing what we can do with a little knowledge? We'd be downright dangerous if we knew what rv repair shops thought they knew!

I'm just now reading this so it looks like our narrow window has closed unless you will be back North before the 17 or 18 of this month...not just sure when we will leave but that is the target...travel safely
