Small Steps & Cameras

I keep making small steps toward my RV adventure

I cut my hair so it's easier to care for, and I bought a glass water bottle that doesn't have that nasty BPA stuff in it.
I'm looking at laptops and cameras. And of course I'm always looking online at RV's.
Upping my walking time each day - got to have strong legs for all those hikes.

Anybody have a camera they really love? I don't need anything great - I think convenience is more of an issue.

There are several threads about cameras - and as many opinions on the favorites as there are women here That said, I'm a strong believer to pay enough to get a real view finder in any camera you purchase. The really less expensive one (and going into mid-range now) are dropping them to keep the cost down (so the manufacturers say). I have had 3 Kodak EasyShare cameras (received an upgraded version of the one I currently own this past year) and love them.

Basically any of them can be good if they'll do what you need/want it to do. Canon is loved by many and what I used to own. Actually I still have a small Canon. It is not equal to the small EasyShare it replaced, though. Probably because it's newer and not as well made (IMO). The latest EasyShare I have has more bells and whistles, but I continually use the older one - while slightly heavier, I actually think better made. But if I didn't have the older one, I probably would be thrilled with the newer one, in this case. If I was buying a more expensive camera with extra lenses, etc, I'm still a lover of the Canon EOS and would probably purchase that. I don't want all that stuff any more

I was so impressed with the pictures that Liz was taking on her many memorable & shared explorations that I asked her what kind of camera did she have....she was good enough to take the time to give me detailed information regarding same. It is a Canon Powershot SX100 & at this time was made approx. 3 yrs. ago. I spent many an hour (took weeks really) on the web looking to purchase this camera & finally found one (new) on EBay in Canada...Lots of problems getting it that aren't relevant now....all I can say is it is the finest camera I have ever owned....& I love it. Was worth every minute I spent finding & finally getting it. So, my advice is to talk to anyone who enjoys taking pictures, let the gals here on this website give their opinions & then go look at some at places like Best Buy or Costco or wherever...but look at them in person..there was 1 or 2 that I almost bought on line (when I couldn't find my Canon) but when I went & saw them in person I didn't like them at all & was relieved that I hadn't bought them unseen. Beth is right about the viewfinder...mine doesn't have one & I miss it (sort of) but the camera is so fantastic otherwise that I don't mind....but I was told at the stores that viewfinders are being eliminated (as Beth said...to keep costs down)...so, if that's an important feature for you I'd do my homework real quick & buy while they are still available on cameras...Don't know if any of this helps you but hope it gives you food for thought....

I'm not much of a photographer but I have 2 digital cameras. One is a HP that is about 8 years old and fits in my purse. I also have a nicer, bigger Nikon. I seldom use the Nikon because I don't want to carry it around and keep up with it. I would vote for a smaller camera that you can put in your purse or pocket.

Include a visit to your local professional camera retailer. They have a lot of knowledge to share with you once they know what you want to do with the camera. Best Buy people do not usually have that kind of background.
