Places for Gas Discounts

Did you know that you can get an RV Fuel Advantage card and sign up at Flying J/Pilot and when you use the card you get a gas price discount of 2 cents a gallon and 5 cents a gallon diesel and propane of, I think, 10 cents and $5 off dumping fee.... Not much but it all helps out. I don't know how the diesel works but there was some talk on one of the other forums and it is possible that you have to do cash for the diesel. The gas you can use credit/debit card. Insert the credit/debit card, the insert the 'loyalty' card and after it pumps and give you the receipt it shows the discount. I know that not all Flying J/Pilots are easy to get in and out, but I use them a lot when on the road, because you normally can get a rig in and out. NOTE: Normally, not always.

Did you know that you can get a WalMart Gift card and it gives you anywhere from 3 cents a gallon to, get ready, today I got 10 cents a gallon off when I filled Herbie. Don't know if that is a today only, or if it has to do with the big signs in the store saying, get a WalMart card and get 10 cents a gallon off at participating stores. So I expect that I might fill Bunkie up at the local WalMart in the morning before I head off to Houston. I usually have a WalMart gift card that I carry around for fill ups.

In Texas the HEB stores also have a 'discounted' gas station and if you have a card and buy xxx dollars of grocery products you get xxx cents more off. I don't count those 'buy and get more cents off' as real discounts as a full-timer, that ain't gonna happen in a long time.

In Arizona the Safeway, Albertsons and Fry's stores have the same deal as HEB. The gas is usually comparable in price at those stations to the local Valero as they compete for customers.

Okay, that's my 2 cents worth....pun intended.

Also if you have a Discover Card, they are paying 5% cash back on gas purchases July through September. you have to sign up on their website.

Wal-Marts/Murphy Oil in AL are not participating but many other states are. Link shows states and provides another link to specific stations offering the $0.10 off per gallon thru Sept 30.

Chase VISA cards are also offering bonus points for gas purchases between end of June and Sept.

Many of the grocery stores have discounts. Use your discover card and save twice :) Use the discover card to purchase the groceries and the gas, and get the discount the store offcers (walmart, or whatever store) and accumulate. I wish the Walmart discount was nationwide, but, like Sarah said, it's only at some of them.

The Flying J/Pilot plan may have changed since I last used it - but had to reach a certain limit in purchases to get a good enough discount anymore. I used to use it a lot, but my card quit working at the pump, they said twice they'd send new, they didn't either time - and then I didn't have enough purchases to the get the disount on propane one month, so don't look for them anymore, but the card is free, so worth having for if/when the discounts do work.

any of the Kroger family interchange on that discount. Here in Az the Krogers is called Frys, In Colorado it is called King Soopers
but the cards are interchangable, some small towns in between here and there have City Markets, same family of Krogers. I use my discount only when I fill up cause once its used, thats it until you build up another 100 points. Also, on the Frys (Krogers) card, the points expire at the end of the month. :-(
I also learned the hard way to use cash for the discounts cause most stations here in AZ charge you 10 cents MORE for using
the debit or credit card. (makes the 10 cent discount obsolute if you use your debit card)

The Pilot/Flying J program seems to have straightened back out again. I think they got a lot of "feedback" from RVers because there was a lot of discussion on some of the forums. You don't have to have a 25 gallon fill-up for gas anymore. I have been with Birdie when she filled her car and it has a much smaller tank. At the Pilot station near us, you could use a credit card and get same price as cash and also get the discount for gasoline but it looked like the diesel had one cash price and a higher credit card price. I haven't filled up with diesel there yet so don't know if the RV program differed on that issue.

Only purchase required at WalMart is that you have a gift card. So I buy my own gift cards and add $$$$'s to them as I want/need.

No purchase required at Pilot/Flying J. Matter of fact they will give you cents off for drinks bought with the gas receipt for proof of purchase.

I buy at HEB here in TX but don't know that they have a customer loyalty card. Gas station doesn't ask for it.

While in Oklahoma recently I bought groceries at Homeland. They have a customer loyalty program and a gas station. The checkout clerk used a blank card for the groceries. I never bought gas there as 7-11 had gas at anywhere from 3.17 to 3.28 while I was in town, uuhh - that was cash price.

But you ladies that know me, know that I pick pennies up off the ground. Just means one more cent than I had before.
