Back from my first camping trip

Postby Orchid » Fri Jul 01, 2011 7:36 pm

My first real camping trip is now just a memory. Everything went well. I found out I had stored things in places that "seemed" logical at home but just didn't work camping. So I'll be rethinking some things. I found also that I had inadvertently put anti-freeze in my hot water tank. So my hot water smelled like anti-freeze. My friend who camped with her son in their fifth wheeler and I decided to use the park's showers and bathrooms. So problem was that I couldn't wash up the few dishes and silverware I used. Boo-hoo! I guess I'll be flushing out my systems a lot better from now on.
My idiot dog who looks like Hershel's twin but doesn't act as nicely and calmly as Hershel was such a good dog I was speechless. The park was full of squirrels, geese, and rabbits. They teased him mercilessly. He never once tried to pull away and chase them. He wanted to, but held out. Good boy!
My brakes seemed to hold out ok and the new tires made driving a dream. I go Tuesday to get the new brakes. That will be over $700. But safety first!

Glad your trip went well, except for the anti-freeze boo boo. Interesting too as to how your dog behaved better than you anticipated. I have three dogs who don't like to travel but I'm thinking of taking the one that seems most likely to adapt on a very short trip and hoping the experience will change her mind.

Camp and learn, Orchid! Every trip is a learning lesson, even for those of us that have been doing it for years. I'm assuming you had a good time, you made it home safely, so therefore, you had a great and succesful trip! Good job, GF!!

Sounds like, overall, a very successful trip. Glad to hear it. And there will be those "things" on trips for years to come - that I still like to call learning experiences :)

Congratulations on a successful 1st Trip! It'll get easier and easier.
I say any trip that did not involve the harming of any animal or human is successful.
Keep up the good work.

I'm with Mitch on "good camping trip", no harm to anything. Glad it went well.

Congratulations on getting out and making it back. And hey it isn't as if you left the plastic "steps" that you use for steps sitting in the middle of some rest stop in WV after taking the dogs out to potty... :o    Herschel said he would never tell. I didn't even notice until the next pit stop when I walked back....and said a not nice word :? :D

   I do believe Beth did something like that, too. Can't tell you how many water regulators have been left on faucets between here and Alaska! I figure as long as me and the furkids make it down the road, all else is replaceable.

Yep. I'm still reorganizing the cabinets after two years (and reminding my mom that while we're camping, she doesn't have to close them all the way.)

Glad your trip went well (except for the anti-freeze part) and hope you have many more great memories.
