Based on my first post, one might think I was in Friday Harbor by now -- but NO. The big winter storm that roared through the Northwest kept me planted in Salt Lake City. Now forecasts for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are for sunny bluebird skies ... and motor home travelin'!

It's Mountain Home, ID Monday night, then I'll overnight in Stanfield, OR on Tuesday. Wednesday evening Marda and I will be having dinner in Olympia, WA. I decided not to overnight in Anacortes. Instead, we'll catch the 2:05 p.m. ferry (nonstop to Friday Harbor). I hope to be all set up, enjoying a cup of coffee at the park by sunset.

One more mini-GTG for this trip! Jemek (Kristy) and I will be meeting for coffee about an hour before I queue up for the ferry & I'll get to meet her daughter Kodie as well.

I enjoy meeting our forum sistahs.

Today I'm doing the last-gasp laundry, errands and packing up. I have two laptops -- I use one and my roomie uses the other (she pays me extra for the LT & internet connection). The one I use went phtttthh a couple of days ago. I could still take the other laptop ... but I feel badly about making my problem her problem. So I'll likely drag out an old desktop unit and set it up for her to use instead.

For now, I have a heater going in the rig to warm it up ... it feels like home when I'm packing & it's all toasty inside. There's snow on the ground outside right now.

It is SO great to be back on the road again!

We have ignition! I've completed the first leg of my trip -- no problem! I'm in Mountain Home, Idaho & keeping an eye to the sky ... there is some storminess around my area. There is supposed to be some rain/snow mix along my route tomorrow a.m. So I'll just suffer through a couple more cups of coffee and leave after lunch.

The 'sneakers" of the ocean are a lot like those waves we can get here on the Great Lakes too. Especially Lake Michigan. In the U.P. along Highway U.S. 2 are some beautiful beach dune areas along the highway about 25 miles west of the Mackinac Bridge. The road is a bit widened there to allow cars to pull off and park along this stretch. In summer when the weather is hot, it is a very popular spot for swimming. Years ago we used to stop for dip as well. But if the winds are blowing from the south and the surf is rolling into shore. Stay out. Although it make look inviting and fun to play in those big waves, stay out. That area is prone to "rip tides". If you get caught in one, if will pull you out from shore and you can't get back in. Only way to do it is to swim parallel to shore till you get out of it's grip. People have drowned there and warning signs are posted. This community lost a uncle and nephew two years ago when they and their families were on their way back from a family vacation into the U.P. The nephew was out in not really deep water, but got caught in the rip tide. Then the uncle got caught trying to save him and both drowned. You can be wading just waist deep and get pulled under.
