Friday Fiasco

I should mention that yesterday when I finally got to my intended target at Netarts Bay Oregon to spend a month or more here I had arranged to have a site with a magnificent view of the bay, just back that big window up to the west and watch the harbor seals and the birds, etc. But, my judgement got the best of me and figured I better not do that, tempting though it was, due to the nearly hurricane force winds that would likely occur sometime soon. So, I took a place back further on a creek. As I write this the trailer is rockin-and-rollin in gale-force winds. Everything on the roof is howling and screaming. I can only imagine my concerns had I taken the view spot right out there in all that wind. There is a house nearby and the owner has a wind chime outside on the deck....can you believe it...she's either stupid, very mean...or deaf....God forgive me, I am sure she is a very nice lady.

Earlier today I went the six miles into town to Fred Meyer for groceries and binnoculars since I left my beloved binoculars at home. I chose a pair and tested them out in the store on a target they had set up on a wall about 60 yards away...seemed fine. So, I head back and unload my groceries with childlike angst to get out to Cape Lookout...Wow! how magnificent, almost sensory overload it is so beautiful, cliffs all along the beach with misting waterfalls crashing hundreds of feet to the beach, the huge 6 or 8oo foot high rocks jutting up out of the ocean with one that has a hole big enough to pass a cruise ship through it....amazing...I got out my brand new binnoculars to scope that mighty thing and the lense was cracked.........................Again, I had to chuckle....I am not laughting so much anymore... it has turned into a chuckle. I figured at the store the target is only 60 yds away so the focus is not what it is when you look out to the earths horizon....that more succinct forcus highlighted the crack....So, tomorrow off I go to town again to return them and go to the sporting goods store across the street and buy a set there...this time I am going outside checking them at a real distance. God willing, that I make it through the night and my TT (Ziggy, is the name I chose for my TT) doesn't blow over........actually this is still invirgorating fun.

I hate the wind and we have been in winds so far haven't blown over but when it's bad it not hard for me to imagine it
sounds like a really pretty area...and will be more visible with better eye pieces...we have some how ever I would like some for
shorter distances so I can see the birds in the feeders these are two strong
enjoy your stay there

Awww, you sure are getting baptized by fire! (Or should I say wind and rain?)

Pat yourself on the back for listening to your gut about moving away from the bluff. Good call! :D Just pretend that you're on a boat ...

Windchimes ... I used to love them too, until I moved to the mouth of a canyon and we get gale-force winds regularly blowing through. I gave my beautiful baratone set to a friend and asked my neighbor to take hers down (her bedroom was on the other side of where they were hanging -- mine wasn't).

If your travels take you through the Pasadena area I'd love to get together. Your stories are better than a suspense novel! ;)

certainly an adventure to remember and talk about for a long time.
I love my windchimes, and its about the only thing I kept of my past stickhouse
life. I used to hang them in the doorways in the house, they were like alarms
to me to "sort of" track the movements of my grandsons and son around the
house when I was in the back room. Could always tell if someone was sneaking
into my room to "borrow" something. Someday I'll be able to get them out and
hang them again, although my patio ones have been know to get silenced on
occasion for a short time.

It's fun living your first adventure with you by proxy!!!

I can just feel your rig rocking and rolling around, and am very happy you decided to park a bit out of the full-force winds!

I can't wait to see some pictures of where you are.

Happy travels!

I love wind chimes too. But it just struck me as "inappropriate" here where the wind never stops and all these RVer's haven't got "real" walls to keep the noise out..But, I notice a funny thing...the wind is so loud and immense that I have't heard chime one!.....the chime is proably in a continued state of "horizontal"

Desert lesson #1...look at the trees and bushes to see which way they're bent...put your front or back in that direction. That's the way the wind usually blows, and altho the wind will occasionally change, that will really help with the rockin' and rollin'.

So far really enjoying your trip for the entertainment value! I've found that I go in cycles...some trips are Murphy's Law and some are a piece of smooth dark chocolate..same with my casino trips, so hopefully your cycle will change soon. But not to soon, we're having to much fun with you!

Yep, yep, yep. What Sharon said I second!! LOL

But I do have my wind chimes up here tho. :D They sure aren't making much music today tho even with the breeze we have. They too are soggy and weighted down by the rain.

Your post sure did give me a good chuckle this morning tho...

I so know what you mean about a rockin and a rollin...when we first moved into the motor home about a month into it we had a horrific wind storm in the middle of the night. I woke up Ron by screaming I just know we are going to blow over. He calmed me down, assured me we would not go a topsying and a turning. But it was scary.

Now I would have probably wanted the back in sight where you could see the ocean waves just because I love to watch the ocean beaches/shores in a major wind storm. We have been in Depot Bay, OR during a few big storms and they were awesome. But then again we were in a 4 story condo with all glass windows facing the ocean and not in an RV.

Stay well and enjoy your trip.

Another little tip we learned while spending 3 months in Corpus Christi, TX a couple of years ago where the wind can be a constant thing at times...and the rocking of the rig can get scary.....fill your FRESH WATER tank at least half full if not more, even if you have full hookups in the campground....Acts as ballast and helps keep you anchored. We love the shore line camping experience and hope to do more in the future....sounds like you have a beautiful spot there...enjoy yourself....
