Des Moines camping trip?

Postby BarbaraRose » Sun Jul 04, 2010 10:45 am

Bikerchic (Linda) has been at a recreation area on the river just south of Saylorville Lake, below the levee. The river has been flooding from recent heavy rains and the recreation area was under water so she was moved to a nearby campground and hasn't been able to work. Now the levee has a leak in it and there is worry it might break, causing major flooding in her area. I just put a call in to her to find out more details. I may have to cancel my camping plans for next week (I still have nightmares about that AR flood a few weeks ago!!), unless we can move to a safer, higher campground. Don't want to wake up to a raging river in the middle of the night! Will keep you posted on her situation...

Just got off the phone with Linda. The campground she is at is above the levee and the dam on Saylorville Lake so she is in a safe spot. The area she was in at the recreation area is completely under water (below the dam) so glad she got moved out of there in time. So my trip is still on. I will leave next Monday from work and come back early Thursday morning. Can't wait to get together again. We had so much fun when she was up here in April!

That's good news, well, better news, I guess. It's bad that her original campground is under water.

Don't forget to take pics, lots of them!

Good news, Barbie! Now you two can raise a ruckus once again! I hope Sharon's job doesn't totally cease, or that she can find something similar to do.

Thanks for the update.

Glad to hear she's in a nice spot and you can still go visit! Is she going to have to wait until she can get back where she was to make money, though? And are they covering her cost at this cg, I hope. Give her all my best - and you two have fun and remember to take lots of pictures.

Once the recreation area is no longer flooded, Linda will move back there and have to help clean up the mud and mess left behind, so she will be very busy then! Until then, she is at the campground, free of charge, but not making any money. So she is anxious to move back and get back to work. Personally, I hope that won't be before next week! I don't want to be camping in the mud!
