people were seeing them in Ohio, but I didn't see him until we camped at Cane Creek State Park in Star City, Arkansas. I first thought it was a meadowlark, but the size wasn't right.
So glad that you are enjoying them. I was very excited to see them. I have to tell yu I saw much more birds than I was able to take a picture of.

GREAT bird pics, Marslet! Strangely enough, the only bird I recognized was the Dickcissel! What a neat bird trip this must have been.

At the north of MA, on the southern section of Plum Island, where I spent all my early summers, the Parker River Wildlife Refuge is a birders' paradise, I am told. In the days when I used to go there, it was just wild, free beach and dunes, and we could camp (in tents back then) anywhere. No camping is allowd any mre, which is probably a good thing as some campers were not as conscientious about preserving the dunes as we were. Has anyone ever been there? Newburyport (pronounced Newbryport, NOT Newberry port!) is also a famous old fishing community which has been preserved and updated. They have done a wonderful job here. My mother was born in Anna Jacques Hospital there, and my great Aunt lived in Newburyport until she died. I need to get back in that area and see about visiting old haunts. Salisbury Beach has a campground, just over the border in NH. Must check that out.

Happy travels!

Ha Janet,
I believe in the saying that you learn something new every day. Before I started birding, I had never heard of it either.

I'm so glad you were able to post - and in a size I could see the birds. How neat they are. I, also, never heard the name Dickcissel before - and what a neat bird. And I love that it must have been singing to you when you took the picture.

Love all the pictures. Thanks so much for posting them.

Marslet, you need to put Plum Island on your wanna bird list in the spring. Also, Marblehead Sanctuary near there is great, too. While up there make the effort for Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Boston. All of those places were just loaded with the warbling beauties. You will love it. Warblers actually singing.

Soos, I just spent 3 days at Plum Island birding. What a great place. Will definitely go back to Vermont, New Hampshire and upper MASS.

Thanks Birdie,
I wish I would have know about them when I was in Ohio. That trip was a once in a lifetime trip for me. something I had been wanting to do since I got into birding 5 years ago. Doubt if I will be going back. Know won't be pulling the camper, may fly one day, but with the price of tickets going up up up probably won't do that either.
