I'm guessing that it is the test that is done on babies when they are first born but that is just a guess
I do know it is familiar

Yes, that is the test done on all newborns. It's named for Dr. Apgar, the woman who invented it, although some have taken the letters and made it sound like they were an acronym: American Pediatrics Gross Assessment Record. That's after the fact, the credit belongs to Dr. Virginia Apgar.

No, it's the Apgar test - done on every infant at one minute after birth and again at 5 minutes after birth. If the score on both is good, then that's it, but if it's low, it will sometimes be done again. Here's good basic information on it: Apgar Test
