Carol, don't worry about anyone laughing at you. Will people watch YES. will they laugh PROBABLY, so what. Take your time, go slowly and it will get done. (this coming from a truck camper owner). After you've finished have a good laugh yourself. It will get easier (so I'm told). Linda

Thank you all for the words of encouragement. I guess I'm more afraid of someone laughing at me as I try to back into a camp site. LOL I remember my DH chuckeling at others. I told him that people weren't born knowing how to back up!! I'm def not afraid of being alone. I have my two 4 legged companians and I have never felt nervous in any campground that I have been in. But I do want to thank you for the instructions on backing up. They are very, very helpful. Now all I have to do in find a patient friend. Oh I know, my daughter will help. After all one hand washes the other and she needs a babysitter sometimes

Just takes practice, practice and more practice! You may be doing a heck of a lot of babysitting before it's all over! I was in Canada headed home from Alaska and had managed to snag a pull thru at the CG. The sites across from me were narrow, short and had about a 2ft drop on either side where they had been built up, and I was thanking the rv gods that I hadn't gotten one of those. In comes a 40ft DP towing a car, woman about 60 or so driving, hubby or SO riding shotgun. OK, well, THIS ought to be interesting, here's my entertainment for the afternoon. Girlie gets out, un-hooks car, pulls up, and backs into her site perfectly on the first try. Guy finally gets out and moves the car to the front of the rv. Thought to myself, yup, this lady took lessons from the same folks I did. LOL! Don't know where you're at but here's the company: I very highly recommend them, in fact our very own Jenny's hubby works for them.

I went to dump today, which meant backing back into my site. Had to get out 3 times cuz I didn't want to move my levelers (my site isn't level need them on the left. After the 2nd time, they were off a couple inches, so I moved them and backed up the 3rd time right on them. The first time, for some reason, I was way off (a foot or so) from where I should be entering the site. Don't have a clue why - but I always get out and look and that was the point to do so - moved up a couple feet, turned the wheel a tad more - and if anyone was looking and laughing - LET THEM. I'm where I want to be - doing it without anyone helping -

The thing I'm not good at is how far I can back up. I don't have a back up mirror, and I'll get out a dozen times before I'll hit a tree or something back there. When I had my scooter on the back, I was even more careful. Didn't want to damage it.

Raising my hand, too. I'm a part-timer and usually like to follow someone (like Sharon) who can both drive and navigate at the same time since I have a hard time doing that. Only time I got into serious trouble was when I didn't watch Hope's butt! (For those of you who are saying "who is Hope? That's Sharon's rig.)

When DH died I realized that the huge 3-slide lawn ornament we called a Class A was way too much RV for me so I swapped it for a 26' C called Flitter. I love her and she's been good to me even when I scrape her against poles that jump in my way. Now I get in and out of the cab sometimes half a dozen times to back into a site. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

Chiming in here. I too am a full-time solo traveler and I'll say ditto to what the others have said. Just remember to go slow, go slow, go slow, whether you are backing or turning or going forward. Don't let people put you in a hurry, you are in control of your vehicle, keep it that way. Good luck and happy trails.

I, too, am a full-time solo Woman! I just started full-time August 2009. I had purchased a 17' Casita TT in 2008. Learning how to back up was a challenge for me, but then I had never before pulled/towed anything. Plenty of times I backed in 5 or 15 times until I got it right where I wanted it. But you gotta know there were those marvelous times when I got it on the first try. I remember pulling in to a cg and getting out to walk around the area, two guys across came out and sat on the hood of their pickups, I backed it right in there the first time, just pretty as a picture, got out to unhook and when I looked up, they were gone - no entertainment that day. I really got quite good at backing up the TT. Consequently, when I got Bunkie, my Class C, last winter, when I got ready to back up, well what a piece of cake Man, there is not much to backing this up. You just have to know what's behind you and where it is back there. I have no back window, so I have to use the get out and mirrors routine. I have only had a problem one time in the past 7 months. Uh-oh, that means trouble coming up soon! I do plan to take a driving class sometime within the next 12 months. Need to get it budgeted and on the calendar.

I haven't felt uncomfortable at any of the parks where I have stayed. I have had less than great neighbors from time to time, but I am sure I could move to another spot or another campground within about 2 hours, should I ever want to do that. I really try to be aware of the location of the cg, the area going into it, services location, the normal things you do when looking for a house or apartment.
