I have noticed in recent years that more and more funerals and memorial services are becoming celebrations rather than sad, grieving services. People are now invited to come up randomly to share their stories about the person who passed and some are sad but there is usually a lot of laughter too. I wanted that for my mom's funeral, so the eulogy (sp) I gave was all about her goofy habits, fun vacations with her, her great sense of humor and all the good times we had together. Made everyone laugh (and cry a little too). I still miss her terribly, but when I think of her, it is of the great memories and fun times, which makes me smile! That is the way she would want it to be.

I have to agree..services are changing.
I know at all my grandparents services. There have been people selected to go up and share. Then there has even been an "open mic" type thing.
I have even noticed a change in the way funeral homes are set up. The few I went to as younger child/adult. There was a "family room" to the side and that is where the family sat. Then the other friends and such sat out in the main area. Now it is all one area. By the time it is over people are laughing and sharing funny stories. That is the way it should be ...a celebration of the life they lived. Dh says he better die in the summer time..he wants a huge BBQ celebration.
