Myrtle Beach, horses and the moon...

Postby BirdbyBird » Sat Jan 30, 2010 1:05 pm

Last stop Thursday night before I hit my DD...... MYRTLE BEACH was just not as peaceful. Besides a few more people, there were horses on the beach (from Nov to end of Feb.) It was the one cantering out of control right towards us the had me worried. Not sure the others on the beach recognized that the one rider REALLY didn't have control :o It did look like fun though.

And besides getting free WiFi at Myrtle Beach, you do have to listen to the take off and arrival of the airplanes that pass overhead. The beach is in the direct path of the Myrtle Beach airport. One of the reason I wanted to stay at least one night though was that the pass through the dunes to the beach is very OPEN and wide (at Huntington Beach you had to pass through very closed pine shrubs) and well I wanted to walk down to the beach and see the moon on the water...... Even bring Herschel with me I felt safer walking the open path at Myrtle Beach :)

What a wonderful time you've had. All of your pics are awesome. I have thoroughly enjoyed your trip, thanks so much for taking me along :D Years ago, when my daughter graduated from Basic training at Paris Island we stayed at the Hungington St. Pk. We didn't investigate the area as you did, so I really enjoyed seeing what is there. I loved the beach, we walked and walked it, especially at night, so romantic , you know? There was a dune between us and the beach, no foliage, just sand we had to walk around and there it was in all its glory. I love water sites and the ocean, there is something magic about it for me.

Thanks for such a super trip Tina !!!

Safe and Happy travels,
Carol

Thanks for the pics Tina, but that beach, for some reason, looked like it was cold! Maybe because it's cold here today.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us. I love the moon over the ocean, you captured the glistening on the water just right.

Looking at those pictures, I loved them all except the one of the beach with the big tall buildings. :( Just not warm and welcoming to me. Now the ones with the people and horses and the ones you posted from Huntington Beach??? That's my idea of beach! I know, naive of me. ~sigh~ Where there's ocean front property, there's people and buildings. Don't have to like the buildings tho!!! ;)

Thanks, Tina, for some beautiful pics of Myrtle Beach......Grand Strand, and all!

Your moon shots with the reflections on the waves are extra special! Years ago, I had to stay at a campground there, I think a state park, while my VW bus had a complete engine replacement! Luckilly I had a good tent, two dogs, and a bicycle to get around!

My last trip to that same state park was years later, and now years earlier than today, when the pier was still there, before the hurricanes of late. My kids, a couple of friends of theirs, and I stayed for a week one April with tents, two dogs, and a Dodge van that was on its last legs. It got us there and back, and that was its last trip! Good times!

I am really looking forward to that Huntington Park.

Happy travels!

The beach shots in moon light are wonderful. We had so much cloud cover could not see the wolf moon this year from my vantage point.

Where did you stay? I don't remember planes at Myrtle Beach - loved when I stayed there - but not in Jan - think it was October or possibly early Nov - just after the end of their summer season - guessing it was chilly there for you? Still - all beaches are wonderful to me.

The flight pattern for the airport often goes right over the beach.....so you have the roar of the surf and sometimes the roar of an airplane... :)
