Bookin' it to Quartzsite

I ran out of books today and decided to add to my library card collection. However, found out that the library here in Blythe charges a $25 CASH security deposit (refundable) to get a temporary card. Then you're only allowed to check out three books at a time. I don't normally carry a lot of cash and have never had to pay any kind of deposit at any other library.

So, I drove 20 miles to the bookstore in Quartzsite and found all kinds of things, including four free fiction books and a travel book I'd been looking for. The owner was his usual almost-naked self only this time he was wearing some kind of red Christmas jacket along with his little red pouch down below. Steven and I at first thought he was wearing brown tights. Nope. That's the all-over tan. So many people were taking his picture and he was very gracious about it. I passed on that opportunity.

In talking with my neighbor here, found out the community college library is very nice about issuing library cards, so I'll check there Monday.

Quartzsite is beginning to look like a city already - many RVers all over town, in RV parks, and boondocking. Nothing like a month or so from now, though.

He's a really nice guy, very knowledgeable about books, but believe me, you really haven't missed a thing in looks. Has it been a week already? How time flies!

Just had to comment on this subject....I've used my library card for years to take out audio books to play while RVing or just driving around town or listening to while I clean house, etc.. You usually get a 21 day useage. When I went to visit my daughter in Palos Verdes Estates (So. Calif.), I had the opportunity to go to the library there with her. Palos Verdes area is pretty darn expensive with multi-million dollar homes the norm, and an abundance of high salaried families... (Luckily my daughter bought their small home many years ago before that area became so 'exclusive'). The reason I comment on the financial end of things, is when I decided to borrow an audio book to listen to in the evening while I was there, the charge was $1.00 per day. I couldn't believe it & of course passed on the borrowing of the audio tape. Have never been to a library in the different cities I've lived in that ever charged anything (unless of course you were late in returning your item.) Just wanted to comment as I never forgot that experience.....

Chris, I wouldn't have paid the $25 for the temporary card either. I guess if you put a high enough price on the temporary cards, people will pass on getting one, which is probably what the library wants. I also would have driven the 20 miles to the used bookstore. That sounds like my kind of place. Linda
