I jumped the gun with planting. This goofy weather forecast changes multiple times even in one day. Looking ahead I planted pots and now it is getting cold again. I was just outside trying to cover tiny little tomato plant and geraniums. The wind is whipping from the south. I never thought I would be checking temperatures, wind speed and directions. Geeezzzz

looking much better than mine but we won't be able to plant anything until memorial day give or take a few days...
have you heard of Walls of Water hard to explain but it increases the ability to plant earlier than without... I wish I could describe them but look it up they help here in our short short season....especially with tomatoes...

A wall of water is a series of connected tubes, open at the top, which encircles a planter. You fill the tubes with water and they act to insulate the plant inside. They will absorb sun during the day, warming the water, then release the warmth during the night into the air space around the plant by convection. It can protect plants from a late frost or light wind.

The sun is struggling to shine, I will take it. Uncovered the balcony plants. Had a heart to heart, told them to hang on sunshine and warmth is coming. Sorry I couldn’t give them a cookie but they are all mine. Lol

Evie, my balcony is a south facing cave and get to temps over 100° it has a wood floor. Iherbs do well but are in 12” pots which retains more moisture plus herbs are more drought tolerant. Basil struggles because it likes water. This year I planted it with a wick so hoping for more success. 25 houseplants have wicks and might over come the apartment. I would have wicks in outdoor plants but they are too big and heavy for me to set up. I have shade cloth ready for this year and will try using a small table fan to hopefully blow the hot air out of the cave. I use miracle grow potting mix so never fertilized. Think I will this year. Please share your adventure. Lol

P.s. if possible elevate your post off the concrete so air can get underneath, brick, wood, etc

There is a reason for potting sheds instead of tiny kitchens. I have potting soil and fern fronds from kitchen to balcony. Fran stopped screaming get me out of this pot and instead muddered geeeezzzz. I’m eating chocolates and not sure the fern will survive and right now I don’t care. Where’s a laughing Scotsman when you need him. Lol
