Hi Shirl.
I too have a Canon ink jet printer. I too hate and despise what Canon, and other printer manufacturers, charge for ink cartridges. Highway robbery, if you ask me.
The last time I ran out of ink for my Canon, I looked on Amazon and for the full inkjet package, Canon brand, (yellow, black, magenta, cyan & the PGBK cartridge) the cost was somewhere around $65.00.
I kept looking, and what I found were "off-brand" printer cartridges, compatible with my Canon. The cost of these? Three SETS each (three each of yellow, black, magenta, cyan & the PGBK cartridges) for a "whopping" $15.99. That's a little less than
$6.00 per set, versus $65.00 per set for Canon. (if these won't fit your Canon model number, search around some more on Amazon).
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073BMRPCP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I bought them. Have had no problems with my printer, at all. Canon, and all manufacturers warn not to use off-brand cartridges because they will "damage your printer" - of course they say this. Selling ink cartridges is where they make their money, they don't make much from selling printers.
I was so angry at the rip-off $65.00 price that I decided if the cartridges trashed my printer, I didn't really care - $65.00 is more than half way to the cost of a brand-new printer.
Again, I don't print a lot, have had these cartridges in my Canon for about 8 months.
No problems at all, my printer is working just fine.
Ps. If you have already ordered the Canon cartridges, consider returning them when they arrive, and then going with the cheap cartridges. Up to you, of course.
Anne
