Prince Phillip dies at 99 years old

Postby MandysMom » Fri Apr 09, 2021 2:32 pm

And now the only Queen of England, alive for most of our lives, the one most of us recall hearing about in history class, joins those of us widowed.
I found it very odd that a musician, a drug addicted rapper, whose heart attack it seems was fuled by an overdose, is headline news, where the death of Prince Phillip, the husband of a world figure, the Queen of England, whose death was announced, was down the page a bit. Rest in peace Prince Phillip, condolences to the Queen and her family! I carry British blood at mostly genes from various parts of the Commonwealth, so I'm sorry for their loss.

I saw that on the CBS morning news this morning. They talked about him for quite a while. And yes, both he and the Queen were a part of our lives growing up. I remember watching a lot of the pomp and circumstance that surrounds the British royalty on TV over the years. I don’t know what her Majesty is going to do now, but I am sure she is devastated. She relied on him a lot and she is now older too. We are all getting older and eventually it will be our generation that will be starting to leave this world and the next generation will take our place. I was talking with a friend the other day, and we were both saying that a lot of the original owners who had places around the lakes right here, are gone now. We are the children of those original owners. We said we can remember going through birthday parties, graduations, weddings, baby showers, anniversaries, and now funerals.Time marches on

I hadn't heard until I was on yahoo news and saw only a reference to Prince Harry wondering if he would be going to the funeral....
It is always sad when one looses a spouse regardless of their place in society ... I pray she and her family find comfort

You've got to love Facebook. Last week I was reading an article about Prince Phillip and all his mistresses over the years and how the Queen put up with it. Now the articles are how he was such a great man. I'm sure the Queen will miss him terribly but will continue to show her British stiff upper lip. She is an institution and served her people well.

Karen, The Crown, touched on the issue of mistresses, also. Not just with Prince Philip but with several members of the Royal family. It was interesting to see the British take on those things. It was also interesting to see how they portrayed the over all enduring of the his sense of "duty" to the Crown and their relationship over time. Not many men are strong enough to have found that love and role of duty enough.
