From about 1951 to 2000, my family had a cement block cottage on Lake Huron at the tip of the Thumb. Except, it was paneled with knotty pine. At night, for many years, you could hear the carpenter ants chomping behind the paneling and in the hollow doors. I remember once when my dad took off all of the doors and took than outside. We sprayed insecticide in one end of each door through little holes and hundreds of ants came out the other end of each door. That solved the door problem for a few years, but mostly we learned to live with the chomping noises behind the knotty pine paneling!
