Your favorite Western novel?

Postby Cudedog » Sun Apr 28, 2019 8:53 pm

I'm on a reading kick, and this time I'm reading Westerns, but good ones are hard to find.

Do you know of a good one? Anyone care to share their favorite Western?

Thanks. :D

I highly recommend Fearless and Ride The Wind, by Lucia St. Clair Robson. Both historical fiction based on the lives of women. Very powerful looks at a time when women had little power but could still have great influence.

Lonesome Dove, it’s just a beautifully crafted novel all the way around. McMurtry makes you feel the landscape and the hearts of the people in the story.

I like William Johnstone’s western. The way he writes, Bringing all the characters together toward the end can keep me glued to the book. Have stayed up too late some nights cause can’t put it down. He also uses names of many of the actual western towns from back in those days too.
