"Camp Driveway" Question

In August I'll be visiting a woman who used to live in my old neighborhood and who was a good friend of my son's. She and her husband have two tween kids and have a fenced acre in southwestern Montana. She and her sister have been the most loyal friends treating me almost like their mother. They were very happy to hear I'd be in the area and said I could stay on their property with 30 amp hookup during my visit. While I haven't seen much of her, she holds a special place in my heart due to her unfailing friendship with my son. My question is how long is appropriate for me to stay? I'd be happy with 2-3 nights. I'll be arriving on a Sunday. I think they both work. So my question would be to those of you who've provided a "camp driveway" to others and also to those who've accepted an invitation to stay in "camp driveway." How do I determine how long they may think is appropriate for me to stay or how long they want me to stay? I've never done this before and don't want, especially, to stay too long.

On another issue....have you seen the driveway and know that it is both flat enough and long enough for you? The fact that they have 30 amp sort of makes me think they know what RVers need in the way of a driveway.

How long to stay.......you are at least probably good for the three day standard because you get to slip out in the evening and they don't need to entertain you 24/7.

If they both work full time figure that into the mix and how much sight seeing you might do on your own during the day. Since I am basically a hermit at heart my driveway stops don't usually last more than a couple days. The visit length is enough to catch up with each other, let folks know that you care about them, share a few meals and or activities and still get out before I run out of things to talk about......

Now if someone offers you a longer term parking spot for whatever reason and you want to stay in the area, great!

Visiting with retired folks who can come play with you is different than visiting with younger folks that have jobs,children and their "normal" busy routines. (I remember what those years were like and you probably do too.)

I have had my RV friends come to Camp Driveway here ...but I might be the exception to the rule cuz I don't care how long they stay I'm just glad to have the company....

I agree with Tina and if they want you to stay longer they will express that.
my camp driveway was available to Carolb for months, she came and went every
few days. I was happy to have her here and her little RT took no space at all.

Yes Tina they sent me a pic of their property. Totally flat large area separate from the house and beautiful snow-covered mountains in the distance. They apparently have something she refers to as a "camper" but I'm not sure what style it is.

Your 2-3 night stay sounds reasonable to me. I have stayed longer in the yards or driveways of very close friends, but we know that old saying about fish and visitors!

I'd play it by ear and have a jello plan on the back burner.

Apparently he "borrowed" it from an earlier writer, but Ben Franklin said "Fish and visitors stink in three days."

And at least from some relatives I have visited, that is a good length of time, but you can work it out once you are there. Let them know you have reservations somewhere down the road. You can always "cancel" these if you decide to stay longer, but it will give you an excuse to leave.

I driveway camped in Florida a year ago. It was wonderful to have my own space to retreat to for some down time in the afternoon and to have my own sleeping space at night. That being said, I agree with everyone else. Couple to three days is safe. Have fun! It looks like a beautiful spot.

Camp Cihak has been used by eight people on this forum. Most of the time it has been one or two night stays. They were certainly welcome to stay longer. I blew that option with Beth when I told her that the Redlin Art Gallery was fantastic. I had to leave Liz on the lurch because of an emergency and have always have felt terrible about that. When I have had time I’ve always tried to take the person around to some of the local points of interest. Sharon Souter had me geocaching, which was fun until she thought we should go into an area at Fort Randall that had a warning sign about rattle snakes. That’s when I told her she was on her own. She decided a trip through the old fort cemetery was probably better option. Tina ended up going to one of our ladies cocktail parties at Missy’s house. Mitch got to experience a good old South Dakota storm…we lost a tree that night. Our side driveway is gravel but pretty level and we have a 30 amp that is for our own rig and visitors. We have a huge yard that gives plenty of room for turning around so those people who have trouble backing up don’t have to worry.
