Melissa, I appreciate the perspective you bring to driving while towing. And while I've never driven a semi -- nor do I intend to -- towing pull-behinds for many years, and now driving a 31' motorhome, I've found that things are quite different. I sure don't drive the motorhome down big grades the same way I did when pulling a 26' TT.

I hope that Barbie has done her homework with weight distribution in that U-Haul. If she doesn't load it properly she could end up with a serious "tail wagging the dog" situation.

I was lucky when I took drivers Ed that our high school had only one old beat-up station wagon with standard transmission so we all learned to drive a stick shift!!! And then I drove manuals most of my life.

But Melissa is right that you can ruin a transmission fast if you don't know what you are doing so safest is to use stab braking.

Good discussion...

I have pulled UHauls before and know to put the heaviest stuff in the front. Due to the weather conditions in New Mexico, I will be staying south into Texas and it looks like there won't be much in the way of steep mountain passes to get thru that way.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
