Did You Know: Some Christmas Trivia

Postby Colliemom » Fri Dec 23, 2016 3:37 pm

Thought i would share some of this Christmas trivia that I read last night, with you.

Each year more than 3 billion Christmas cards are sent in the U.S. alone.

All the gifts of the 12 days of Christmas would equal 364 gifts.

The traditional colors of Christmas are green, red and gold. Green has long been a symbol of life and rebirth; red symbolizes the blood of Christ; and gold represents light as well as wealth and royalty, represents Christ.

The "two turtledoves" represent the Old and New Testaments.

According to Guiness World Records, the tallest Christmas tree ever cut was a 221 foot Douglas fir that was displayed at Northgate Shopping Center in Seattle, WA in 1950

The word Christmas is from Old English, a contraction of Christ's Mass.

"Jingle Bells' was first written for Thanksgiving and become one of the most popular Christmas songs.

Charles Dickens wrote "A Christmas Carol" in just 6 weeks.

The first state to recognize the Christmas Holiday officially was Alabama.

The first President to have a Christmas tree in the White House was Franklin Pierce.

That there is another verse to the song "White Christmas" at the beginning, but is usually dropped from recordings:

"The sun is shining, the grass is green,
The orange and palm trees sway,
There's never been such a day in Beverly Hills, LA.
But it's December the twenty fourth,
And I am longing to be up North."

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I had to laugh the other day when I heard a Person who said he was an atheist, say all the nativity scenes and talk of Christ were not fair because they were running his Christmas! Yep I heard him say it. And wondered if he knows what the word Christmas means!
