Alaska Trip

For those of you who have driven to Alaska, do you feel a tow vehicle is necessary. Our motor home is just 25 foot so it is easy to get around in. Would there be any benefit to hauling my little golf cart instead of our Honda CRV? Thanks for your comments.

I know some will disagree with me, but my next trip will be without a toad again. I took it the last two because I was workamping. Didn't my first trip, and was fine without. It's a lot of miles and extra expense for little usage, in my case. If I was having someone join me flying in like a few have done, I know a car came in handy then.fI'd simply rent one for a few days, as that would be happening in, most likely, Anchorage.

I probably wouldn't bring the golf cart either.

Thanks Beth. We really don't want to take the car if we won't need it. Still might take the golf cart just to use it for the campgrounds on the way up and back outside of Alaska. It's easy to load and unload. But still not definite on taking it. It does come in handy when hauling laundry back and worth. With my RA I can't really explore the bigger campgrounds by walking.

That's an excellent reason to take the golf cart. And it could probably be used in some of the small towns, too.

I also seem to remember times when I drove the rig over to where ever the laundry was and managed that way, too. I think the toad question is similar to when we went to MX. I don't think I need one in Alaska so much but there are all those neat places between here and there in the lower 48 and Canada that you might plan on lingering around and exploring. Always decisions to me made.

I think the same question could be asked of most places you visit. I don't like hooking, unhooking, pulling in slides, making sure all things are put away, etc. every time we want to go driving around the area we are staying? But that's just us. Of course, the last trip we had our 35 ft and not our 27 ft MHz but we had a car both times. is pulling the golf cart the same as a toad??? Either way you will love Alaska. We just got back from there but with 2 other couples so we flew in and rented a car. Have fun planning. carold

My MH is 25 feet also - including the bike rack on the back. I spent 3 months in Alaska and never once wished I had a toad, especially when driving over washboard roads! Parking lots tend to be big to accommodate the big pickup trucks that are so popular with Alaskans. Many people with toads complained about the damage their toads suffered from flying gravel on the roads. A bicycle would be handy in a city.
