Port A Birding area

Sparkle and I stopped very briefly today at a birding area in Port Aransas. Funny, I've meant to go there several times, but didn't think it would be much of anything. Luckily I had my old camera with - but it just didn't do justice to the area, and if we get time this week, we will go back. Here's a few pics -

Who would have thought we'd be up close and personal with an alligator here?

With my new camera I've been experimenting taking pics of the birds and ducks at the rv park. I'll try to get those to photobucket tomorrow to post. I'm in LOVE with my new camera - even if I'm not sure what settings to use when. And if we get back to the birding area, I'll take it with - try to get much better photos and more of those birds.

It's a Kodak EasyShare Z1012 IS - got a refurbished one with a year warranty. Great price, so far I'm very pleased with it - picture problems are those of my making, not the cameras at this point! It's small, lightweight but has much more capabilities than what I did have. Won't do what I used to do with my larger cameras - but without fooling with weight and size and multiple lenses, I think I'm going to be really happy with this one.

As Beth knows, I LOVE my Kodak Easyshare. It takes great pictures and as she says, any problems are the operator not the camera.

Not just any alligator either, American Alligator. First bird is American Coot. Beautiful red front plate and red eye - velvet looking around the eye. The ducks are primarily Blue Wing Teal that has the white on the face in a moon shape. The little peep looks kind of like a yellow legs but I couldn't really tell for sure. The big group of large birds on posts are Cormmorants - either Neotropical or Double-crested. The large bird standing in the next pic is a GBH as in Great Blue Heron, GBH is quicker to say. Great pics Beth. You must have been at the Sewage Treatment Plant called by some lady's name now. That's a great place for marvelous birds. The alligators breed there. Go back and get more pics.

Only one I wasn't sure of was that 2nd bird with the long beak. Love the coots - have them here in the park where we feed them and all the other ducks here. Long story there but we have a park mallard "Donald" who stays year round (he's courting now - so funny) and he eats out of our hands (except when courting and he pretends he doesn't know us LOL). The whistling ducks just got back a week or so ago- love them. Never saw ducks like them till I came down here. One of these days I'll have time to get the pics I took of them to photobucket.

Thanks for the kind words about my pics. I'm pleased with what I got for me - but was more pleased for making that stop - neat place, neat birds - and you know more about the alligators there than I did, for sure!
