That's why I don't use an online service. For me, even Photobucket is only a temp thing to be able to upload to forums. But hey, $4.99/year isn't much in the grand scheme of things.

I like to take my photos, keep them organized in folders on my own computer, and about every six months I delete a lot of them and keep just a few good shots of each event, day or whatever and then burn to a cd. I can get a lot of photos onto one cd. So storage isn't that difficult. I have never like anyone else having control over my life or my things.

I'm with you Cedar, I keep my own photos on my computer and now and then put them
on a thumbdrive for storage. I have yet to learn how to save stuff on a cd, although
my computer has the capability to do that, I just haven't used it yet. The only photos
I put on photobucket are ones that I want to post.

I, too, keep all my photos on my computer. I used to back them up to CD's but CD's can get scratched, overheated, etc so I now put them on thumbdrives - smaller and really easy to use. I do a folder in my Pictures for each trip and even do folders for special places inside each trip folder. I use My Pictures as my screensaver so use my computer as a picture viewer.

I switched to thumbdrives, also - but still have some on cd's. I feel the online places are for things like this - not to keep all my photos. But if I wanted to keep them all there, fullsize, I wouldn't be against making a payment to do so. And it's nice to have some of my pics there to store. BTW, Photobucket has always had a premium service, too. The free services are in hopes enough of those people spend the money on the stuff they charge for - like buying prints, etc. I can understand the charge Kodak is making - cuz you know that most people don't spend any other money. This will cover those costs I would think. Ha - can you tell I was a business person? Anyway, I'm not surprised.

I have been with Kodak since the very beginning, when it was OFOTO, and don't have any problem with a small charge for such a fantastic service. That said,
I don't use as "storage" for my pics, have almost all on thumb drives now, just a couple CDs left from early days of digital. And have to tell you, I changed my online storage (for sharing with others) to FLICKR now as that's what almost everybody is using. On the other hand, I LOVE THE PRODUCTS offered by Kodak online and often upload pics to my account there just to purchase prints or photobooks. Finally, a disclosure....my DD works for Kodak, she is part of the team that builds the pages you see IF you use the service! :D
