Another plant I'm wondering if anyone can identify

Found another strange plant in the campground. This one is a tree. with weird fruit. Also had a busy day yesterday in the Centro Historico of Mazatlan. Shopping in the 115 year old central market and a yardage store - managed to get out of it without buying anything. Wrote all about it ont he blog

that sure looks like it but I guess the "fruit" has a long way to go to be ripe as it is as hard as a rock and green many thanks - I'll share this info with our friends.

Not sure I would like that sticky stuff in my mouth! Maybe that goes away when the fruit is ripe?

That purple flower looks similar to an orchid. Very pretty!

Maybe for the bird, you could put something on the window (hang a towel maybe) so he doesn't keep flying into it. Maybe he sees his reflection or something?

Loved that dress in the shop window!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Thanks for sharing the story Carol. The way the tale kept growing. I just kept muttering "oh no" at each step as the story grew. Gave me quite the chuckle.

Internet said they contain same stuff as chewing gum but they are very sweet when ripe and are good to eat. It said the fruits are grown commercially in Florida and one site sold young plants for home gardens.

You find the most interesting stuff! We have all learned something.

Judy, if they grow commercially in FL, try to find one. What time of year do they ripen?

with your description one as to wonder how to know when they are ripe and what they taste like
beautiful flowers and birds they do do that fly into the windows...got a chime to hang in the window to discourage
the birds but the chimes hit the window about drove me crazy so now it's not on the window..don't have the problem
here don't have as many birds for some reason
love your posting

Carol, the bird sees a reflection of himself and is trying to chase the other bird away. It is a territory thing. A couple of thing you can try of which the easiest is to put a light soap film on the window. If he then turns to the mirror, cover the mirror with a plastic sack. Hope this helps you and the bird figures that he was successful in defending his territory and starts singing for you.
