Snopes takes information from people - like if you get an email and wonder if the story is true - they'll take that email and research it. They find out whether it's true or not - and then they write what they find. If it's true, they say so. If not, they say so. In both cases, they give a synopsis of the research behind it. Before passing on most anything, I check Snopes - and in this case it's great - gives the history behind this as well as says who started the popcorn part of it and why- it was a marketing ploy -
