Every time I have had one the prep has been different. The last one was Miralax in Gatoraid. Gatoraid use to taste like dish water to me and I wasn't sure I could drink it. I think the one I got was the lemon-lime and it wasn't that bad. I'm waiting for them to invent the camera we can swallow and it takes pictures as it goes through.

I think they already have the camera thingy, but I am guessing that the prep would be similar even if they started to use it.....so the camera could see... :o

The prep for the camera is the same, and the camera can't remove polyps so you end up having the regular procedure if something needs to be removed. If we can put men on the moon, you would think there's an easier way to do this bothersome procedure!

OK, putting this back on top again...

Finally doing this (colonoscopy) for the first time, on Thursday. One of my concerns is about the bathroom part. I have had food poisoning a few times in the past and really don't do well with the severe cramping (makes me pass out from the pain), so am worried about that happening with this.
Also, I don't do well with anesthesia. Altho, I heard they just put you under a little bit, rather than full out.

Any words of encouragement are very welcome!!!

(I am doing the Gatorade thing, and got lemonade flavor. Any thoughts on that?)

I think it was Judi who suggested on here that she brought a pillow and books with her in the bathroom for the night. Sounds like a good idea. I might just turn my bathtub into a temporary bed, too. :D

My last one wasn't that bad. I usually start eating light a day before they tell you too. My last prep was with Gatoraid and I didn't find it that bad. I don't remember having bad cramps. My fear was getting to the hospital without an accident because we live 30 miles away. By the time it is time to go there isn't much left if any. I have never had a problem. I don't think they put you under very much. We were there for 6:00 am and were on our way home by 10:00.

Colon cancer runs in my family so that is a big incentive. You sure don't want that.

Do you have someone to bring you? The place I go won't do it unless you have someone with you.

My most recent one was this spring and there wasn't any severe cramping just some periods of frequent urgency  ......Once you get through drinking the prep and the direct results of that, the need and urgency backs off or as Martha said there isn't much left to worry.

I've never had any cramping but as Tina said just the real urgency to get to the restroom NOW! After the first round of the prep there really isn't much left in you. Just make sure you follow the prescribed diet a head of time. Remember you have to have someone drive you home. And the sooner you pass gas in the recovery room the sooner they will let you leave.
