In Fort Bragg California

Postby Olive6001 » Fri Jun 20, 2014 9:50 pm

Whew! I'm tired. :D Sometimes being a guest in someone's driveway is exhausting. Got the heck outta there and headed north. So now I'm in Fort Bragg for who knows how long. I think I just need to rest for awhile. I've started the process to get myself to the July GTG in Oregon. I'll know tomorrow if it works out. What can I say? I'm happy and Olive tells me she's happy and the left coast is beautiful. I think I'll sleep and putter for a couple days at least. Maybe a week or so. :D

Oh! I saw a wild Iris last night during my walk on the Stornetta Public Lands just north of Point Arena. Then I went to a poetry reading at the local pub. Met a bunch of wonderful people.

At least in the driveway you stay in your own house. It's a bit less exhausting than being a visitor staying in their house. But I do know how you feel. Relax and enjoy and good news about getting a reservation for the OR gtg. Good group will be there.

Staying in ones own space is very nice... I could drive people crazy staying with them!!

Nikki - sounds like you are really enjoying your travels. I think you might be near Mendocino, Gualala, Little River (Where Same Time Next Year was filmed). Beautiful areas!! Hope you get to enjoy these areas also.

Yes, in the same general area. Gualala is a bit south. Mendocino and Little River are closer. It's interesting that so far I'm not really interested in "exploring" so much as looking. Now, what the heck does that mean? I'm not so interested in details like history and man-made stuff. I want to see the landscape. I know that I'll be ready for details at some point, but not yet. I'm surprised that's how I'm feeling. I usually like to read all the plaques and wander small town streets. Now I either want to sit and read or write or be on the highway (not urban freeways) with big views in front of me and a parade of swearing speedsters behind me. (I do a lot of pulling over to let faster traffic pass.)

What a great adventure in every way.

Nikki, check out the Botanical Gardens in Fort Bragg, especially on a week day morning, very nice wandering along the bluffs. Oh, and there is a little restaurant under the bridge that has Clam Chowder to die for!

I see you have a Class B motorhome. Do be careful about U.S. 1 north of there. It is OK along the coast until you have to cut in through the redwoods to Leggett. That is the one road I said I would never, ever drive again because it was so narrow and because of the huge logging trucks barreling around corners! Very scary, but maybe OK in smaller vehicle than mine.

Beautiful area, in any case!
