Son woke one night to our calico cat presenting him, as in laying it on his bare chest middle of night a still alive snake. Needless to say cat was not happy when he tossed snake across the room then had to get up, find snake and remove it to outdoors. Cat thought he was very ungrateful for her gift.

   OMG, now you need to teach the cat to turn on a video camera before doing something like that!

It was very funny, ESP since it was da kid not me that got the gift. If it were me, I would probably have had a heart attack. Long since got rid of cat door. They brought too many "gifts" indoors. Sadly,Kallie, died at barely 12 from the melamine poison in the food she loved and died three weeks before the announcement of that so I had no proof it was the cause. We miss her a bunch.

Years ago, my older niece had a cat drop a live snake in her lap as she was reading Sunday paper. She removed the cat door that day and has never had any of her cats outside again.

Mitch:
1) It is past mating season. You should be on lookout for eggs which typically hatch May to July, I think
2) Noticed that was not you chopping at the snakes.
3) Not supposed to kill rat snakes as they will keep rats/mice away or so I have been told.

Don't think I would try this but here is a guide to properly relocating snake using garbage can and broom:

And I'm casting another vote for the tripwire for child control.
The only major handicap in life is a bad attitude!

The Snake Whisperer was my gorgeous neighbor, Bob...
He really has been a Godsend since George died.
Actually, before, too.
Sigh.

Frosty saw me standing in the door this morning and came running across the yard with something in his mouth. It was one of those salamander looking things. I wouldn't let him and his present in the house. Possie turned a couple of mice lose in the house a couple of years ago. We must be out of mice, I haven't seen one in a while. She wiped out the poor green lizards. I hope they don't start bringing snakes.
