Unfortunately most of the paper products out there are not biodegradable - and a lot of them are even coated in plastic - which will be years in landfills. I but the cheapest, thinnest paper plates for when I do use them - which are better than the rest, then I set one on another plate to make it sturdier - which then just needs to be wiped off. And the bowls, to be sturdy enough either are plastic or foam. I hate thinking of the number of trees we need for our paper products that are really a luxury.
(Yes, I know, I use them, too - but I would be happy if they made laws about it, as much as I hate us having to be controlled by laws, and limited what I do in cases like this.)
By the way, yes, I lost a couple pieces of Corelle the only time my kitchen cabinet opened on a turn. Wasn't even a bad road, so I suspect I didn't have it closed properly. Liz, many years ago gave me a little stuffed bear (I think the first time we met) and now I slide it into the handles of my kitchen cabinet - still do on the new rig - as a sign that it's ready for travel. Works for me.
