Pictures from Huntington SP trip (Hopefully)

This is the third time I've tried to post from Photobucket.
My site #130
Image

My little visitor begging for food. Thought he was gonna get in my lap.

Image

Walking path down to the lake. The lake is being choked by some kind of weed along the shoreline and it gives the alligators a great place to hide. I tried to get a picture of one of them that was hanging out by the fishing pier and grabbing the fish when they were being pulled out of the water. The fishermen weren't too happy about this.

Image

Claudie (Wings), her baby Howdy and me in front of her new rig.

Image

On my drive home I took off down a one-lane dirt road looking for the Mustang Cemetary, an old Confederate Cemetary. Went about 10 miles and was going to give up when a local (the only person I saw on the entire drive) told me I hadn't gone far enough; it was another five miles down the road.

Image

Finally found it out in the middle of no where but worth the drive.

Image

Most of the old stones weren't readable and many were knocked over. It looked like this tree had grown up in the burial plot.

Image

There were lots of Confederate flags on many of the stones.

Image

I do love old cemetaries.

All in all I enjoyed my relaxing trip. Enjoyed meeting Claudia, Howdy and Katrina and think I've talked them into coming to Kansas. I could never have found the old cemetery if I had still been driving my big rig so I love my little Roadtrek. Made it home to Kerrville just before the skies opened up and poured rain, with lots of thunder and lightening. Not sure I would go back tho, didn't have the pine smell I associate with piney woods from the Northwest and am just not a fan of alligators. I prefer my critters furry. However, did have to listen to a barking dog for several days and never saw an ranger or park police driving around to check on things. Lots of landscapers but nobody seemed to be in control or ever left the check-in gate. That combined with the check in from hell kind of left a sour taste. The morning I left a big 5th wheel with lots of kids and bikes and dogs moved in next to me and the first thing they did was turn on their outside radio really loud. Sooooo glad I was leaving. Just don't understand why people can't enjoy the quiet of nature; wind in the trees, birds singing, the bloody woodpecker that got up at the crack of dawn, etc. That's why I like to camp Sundays thru Fridays and leave the weekends for others. Am thinking about looking into some solar panels so I can get more off the beaten track.

Great pictures, and sounds like you enjoyed yourself in spite of your check-in problems. One solar panel and a second house battery if you don't already have one, and you'll be all set for boondocking.

Yep, you're absolutely correct. Other people spoil the experience for me too. Their kids, running dogs, music, bicycles, and all the other hoopla just ruin my trip. Too many people in the world anymore. And so many people are rude, disrespectful and inconsiderate these days.

Sure looks nice. Know what you mean about the peace and quiet, tho. Last time out a rig pulled in next to me and first thing they did was turn on the outside stereo system on loud. Then took off for the casino leaving their radio blasting! It stayed on all day until 9:00 or so at night whether anyone was there or not!

Glad your little home on wheels allows you to get off the beaten path.

Hui ladies, haven't posted on here much. But just have to say, there is nothing wrong with kids being out camping. At least they are outside and not glued to video games and computers. And most of you have dogs. Granted, the kids should not be running wild through campsites etc. But that is usually the falt of the parents and there is nothing wrong with riding bikes and normal play

Readytogo, I agree that its better for kids to be outside having fun than inside on their video games. My objection is when the parents don't teach them any "camping manners" such as not running or riding their bikes through MY site right next to my rig. And its not only the kids who come walking thru my site a foot away from my rig. That's what I object to. And outside radios/TVs should be banned!! And loud screaming is NOT necessary to enjoy playing whether its the kids screaming at each other or the parents screaming at the kids from forty feet away. And that is why I camp Sundays thru Fridays when I can. I took my daughter camping when she was young and I didn't allow her to disturb other campers because its rude and bad manners.

Hi Karen, looks like a nice campground. I'm with you 100% on kids running through my campsite. I also HATE the radios in a campground. I camp for peace and quiet and listening to the birds singing. lyn

Screeching children are not something I find fun to be around...I don't care where I am, but especially camping.
I also do not need or want to hear your music or outdoor television.

I, too, try and avoid camping on weekends for those same reasons.

Now if only some airline would implement my thought of Adults Only flights...

Looks like it was a nice SP - but I'm such a chicken _ _ it sometimes, I doubt I'd get that close to where critter jump out of the water.

Nice rig Wings - congrats!
