I use the industrial velcro to put pictures on the wall. I have not had to take them down and so far have had no problems. The only things I have to stow are my kitchen appliances I put out when I am stopped. I have a shelf behind my couch that I have plants on. I do have to put them on the couch when traveling. My wall hangings just stay on the wall. I have not had any luck with the command hooks because of the wallpaper in my rig. I do use them outside, though. I have one on my door that I use to hang wreaths on. I have also added some on the side for lights since my awning is way too high for me to attach my lights to. I use these when I am in a campground where I cannot hang my lights on their trees or if there are no trees. I need light to take the dogs outside at night.

I think part of the problem is that all the finishes are chosen by men. They also choose finishes that will look good at RV shows. In other words, they don't have to stay looking that way, just look like that long enough to sell the unit, then who cares.

I think most of us would be happier with a little less "designer look" and a lot more function!!

I say a big "Amen" to the last two comments. I don't care for the interiors I have seen so far. I spend some of my dreaming time on how I would make changes. Definately some accent colors and maybe even some new upholstery. More reason to get a used motorhome so I won't feel bad about it.

I agree about the color. Maybe I will get a red rug to replace the one I have now, which is brown and not wearing very well.

And who decided that all couches should be a sick gold/tan color?????

I would love to replace my linoleum with something else. It never shows the dirt because of the gold/brown/tan color, but it never looks clean either. I would like something lighter in color without all the dirty-looking blotches.

In the Alpenlite I used little picture hanging hooks for things on the walls and then stabilized them with dabs of silicone adhesive. It worked really well! I had artwork and mirrors and all that good stuff. I've never had command hooks fail, but I suppose there's a first time. I use them mostly for things that wouldn't break if they hit the deck anyway. Adhesives like the stuff on velcro don't do well on plasticized surfaces (most paneling and wallpaper). The plasticizers that make it somewhat flexible leach out, particularly in the heat, and degrade the cheap adhesives............don't ask how I know this! :) Regardless - I'd use picture hanging nails and little hooks and stabilize with silicone - always worked for me! Also - I was amazed at how little moved off of my counters although I moved everything that seemed vulnerable. I travel with a number of antiques - things from my family - that remind me of who I am. The stuff is my roots - seems weird - but so it is.......... most of it gets tossed on the bed when I'm on the road....

Kerry (DesireGMC), I wondered what you did with all your lovely things when you went down the road - especially that lovely antique pitcher!!

In the 5er, the Command hooks didn't work worth a hoot because paper separated from 'wood'. So far have been able to use screws in the camper for anything I have wanted up.

Keeping the 'earthquake' putty in mind - would save moving some things all the time!

I have browns in here so trying to buy lots of color - comforter, rugs, towels.

I've used museum putty for years. Have always loved it.

Be sure to carefully follow the directions on the command hooks and the velcro. It tells how to clean the wall and you need to wait the time period stated before hooking things up.

Me again.... Regarding color... The Alpenlite had aqua caret & upholstery that was aqua and lavender, sort of. I ditched the bedspread & decidedb things were going to be aqua, chocolate brown & orange. Covered the sofa with an off white pottery barn slip cover I got on eBay, got a cute contemporary black coffee table, put in my own recliner and used an antoque tea chest as it's side table. Used chocolate brown sheets, an aqua blanket & turned back white comforter & shams. I love vintage barkcloth so used it for throw pillows. Yup, it worked.
The GMC is basically very austere as my Dad was a good Swede. It's also very mauve/gray. I saw a color. Combo on HGTV that was mauve, hot pink & bright yellow. It has worked like a charm for me! A duvet set from Target, hot pink utensils from tj maxx, and some wonderful coordinated barkcloth & I love it!
So, take your predominate color, ignore or cover up the prints & add pops of color that make you happy. Usually a palette of three with sort of a ratio of 60 - 30 - 10. Have fun! If I could choose a new career it would be custom decorating small spaces..

Here's a case of a thread that really should be in the maintenance room. I saw something today, wanted to post to this thread about it ... but discovered this thread wasn't in the maintenance room and easy to find ... and harder because the title has nothing to do with what we were talking about.

That said ... got my ranting in lol

And here's a link to someone saying no more than we already did:

Just agreeing with this person to be very careful before you use anything that could go through the wall and cause damage.
