First GeoCache On My Own

Postby Dawn309 » Tue Nov 20, 2012 4:45 pm

I found my first Geocache on my own today. I took Luke and Rascal with me since I was looking on my own. Safety in numbers    Anyone coming up on me would have been licked to death. We did not go to town today to do laundry and see the museum because Paul came over this morning to let us know he had a bunch of phone calls he needed to make. After lunch decided to join Geocache.com and get the app for my iPhone to help direct me in the direction of nearby Geocaches. It was really good for us. Ended up being at least a mile walk to and from along with looking in the area of the cache.

Since Birdie was the one who taught me about this, I pulled a bird charm from my jewelry making supplies to leave as my contribution to the swag in the cache. I took a picture of the area we found the cache in. It was really fun with the dogs, going up and down sides of a creek, over and around logs on the ground. Rascal was not really fond of the logs we went over.

Here's what the area looks like the cache is in. It is really well hidden. There was one thing that was out of place in the whole area and it was iffy. But that was where I looked when I found that one thing. Sure enough within a few feet, I found the cache. What was funny was the clue said was shaded by evergre:en. Lots and lots of pine trees all around here. Person who hid it had a good sense of humor.

Good job Dawn. I used to geocache while living in Hawaii. Would find lots of "travel bugs". I traveled often to the mainland and loved taking the travel bugs to the mainland when they wanted to go easy many originating in Japan, Thailand, etc. I would look for a cache on the west coast with a travel bug wanting to go west toward Asia :D I would deposit the east bound bug and pick up a west bound bug. Look on the Geocache.com website and you can find where a travel bug is that you can take to your next destination :P Recently downloaded the app to my phone and there were a lot of easy caches close to the house. Behind a Walmart, in post office parking lot, etc. I will probably wait until we are camping again, cuz I like the wilderness ones better. Or I'll look for a travel bug that wants to go west when we leave for AZ.

Well done! I think all the State Parks in Florida have geocaches.

Oh, Dawn, what fun! I haven't tried geocaching yet, but saw some people hunting for a cache behind the school last month.

Another neat activity to look forward to! :D

Red, I found another cache .5 miles from me with a transferable. The owner wants it to visit as any parks as possible and eventually make it's way back to NB. I am going to go see if I can find it if I have time and then take it to our next park which will be close to Fort Worth. That is in a northern direction. It has been all over the US so far. Lots of different states. I am looking forward to this. Pollyanna attitude we talked about this morning. LOL. It's a beginning.

Louise, I am just learning, but am having fun so far. Good for both me and the dogs with all the walking involved. It is interesting to see what is in the cache.
