That is really interesting! I had never heard about that. I can imagine how scary that must have been for those people!

I was 12 when this happened but as luck would have it we were visiting relatives in UT so did not feel the quake however understood
that it was felt in Jackson which is over a hundred miles away...one of my favorite stops in Yellowstone was Morning Glory pool really pretty
blue like well like a morning glory :D it was dirty looking and murky not very pretty after the quake happened it sorta messed up the system for a lot of years
thanks for taking the time to share this time with us really appreciate it
so sad that we aren't able to get together this trip dang smoke anyway take care and perhaps one day

I was going to ask you if you were in Jackson and remembered it. Glad you were not there....must have been very scary for all around.

I too was very disappointed about the smoke, but it was just not healthy to breathe it. Next time I'm in the area I'll definitely focus more on the Tetons. I've driven through twice and missed most of it both times. The aspens (what we could see of them through the smoke) looked to be at their peak color...would have been some great photo ops without the smoke, lol.

What a truly terrifying time - and it all just shows the power of Mother Nature.
